Nintendo's financial report shows that sales are dropping.

The most recent Nintendo financial report indicates a 22.9% decline in hardware sales and an 8.6% decline in software sales (both year over year). The Switch is hot stuff, but it could be cooling ever so slightly. Accordingly, net sales for the same quarter of the previous fiscal year decreased to 307.4 billion yen from 322.6 billion yen. That is a 4.7% drop. The primary problem identified is the lack of semiconductors, which had an impact on output in the first quarter.

Mario Strikers Battle League has achieved over a million copies sold, while Nintendo Switch Sports and Kirby and the Forgotten Land are approaching the five million mark. This is encouraging news, however. In Nintendo's financial report, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was the other million-seller. You know, after just eight years, the game has sold almost as much as a brand-new Mario Sports title.

In any case, Kirby's debut was huge for the franchise; in its first 15 weeks, the new game sold over 4 million copies. In April of this year, the Kirby series celebrated its 30th anniversary, and this entry has the greatest sell-through of any to yet. Let's give the pink puffball three cheers. What a guy.

However, Nintendo's financial report also included mobile and IP-related operations, with overall revenues declining by 16.8% for a total of 10.9 billion yen annually. So there's still some bad news. It's difficult to determine whether this fall is the result of individuals being less isolated or of the faltering global economy and rising living expenses across many nations, but I'm betting on the latter.

In any case, watch our Xenoblade Chronicles 3 review or a gallery of noteworthy slides from the Nintendo financial report above to see if you can predict how much the game will sell.
