A Nintendo Switch 2 hardware leak suggests significant updates
In light of the recent announcement that a major unveiling for Nintendo's next console is anticipated within the next 12 months, a fresh Nintendo Switch 2 hardware leak has provided us with further insight into what to expect from the device. As always, you should proceed with caution when interpreting these leaks, but if they are accurate, we're now even more anticipating the Switch's replacement.
These fresh insights about the Switch 2's hardware originate from a Reddit thread describing a Famiboards conversation; we first learned about it via an X post by infamous leaker Centro. The major news is that the Switch 2 is said to have 256GB of internal storage, which is four times more than the most current Switch console, and 12GB of RAM, which is three times more than the Switch OLED. This is a larger boost in RAM and storage than we had expected, which may eliminate the need for a new microSD card when purchasing the much awaited Nintendo system.
It seems that two 6 GB 7500 MT/s LPDDR5 modules make up the 12 GB of RAM. Should this prove to be accurate, the additional RAM on the Switch 2 may enable it to run the kind of AAA games that the first Switch has always had trouble with. Although it's more than both the PS4 and Xbox Series S, it's still not nearly as much RAM as other portable consoles like the Steam Deck or AYANEO Flip DS.
Naturally, as previously said, it is never advisable to accept leaks of this kind as gospel until we have official confirmation from Nintendo. Nonetheless, Centro was sufficiently certain in its X post to award the fresh data a "trustworthiness rating" of 9/10, given that it originates from the original leakers who monitored the shipment details between Nintendo, Nvidia, and other component vendors. In any case, we're always on the lookout for new details or intriguing upgrades, and as the console gets closer to debut, we anticipate seeing many of them.
