A review of Ms. Chalice, a cha-nice controller
Our Verdict
The PowerA Ms Chalice controller is a fantastic piece of kit that can meet all of your Switch gaming needs. It’s comfortable to hold for long periods, has solid button-mapping capabilities, and features a fun, cartoonish design that emits the old-style charm that Cuphead is known for
Cuphead. Many people are terrified by just one phrase alone since it refers to a very tough game in which only the strong survive. Conversely, when you call someone a "Cuphead," other people shriek with excitement because they like a good challenge and are drawn to the game's inherent charm—which was enhanced with the release of The Delicious Last Course DLC.
Speaking of the expansion, the endearing Ms. Chalice finally makes her appearance as a playable character. What better way to commemorate the event than with a $54.99 PowerA upgraded wireless controller devoted to Cuphead and Mugman's endearing companion? I'm lucky enough to have obtained one of these stylish gamepads, and I have to say that it fulfills all of my expectations.
I've been wanting a wireless controller for my Switch for a very long time, but I've never been able to choose one. Then, while I was playing Cuphead for the hundredth time, it occurred to me to consider using a Cuphead controller to play the game. So I started looking, and I had to seize the chance to examine the recently released Ms. Chalice controller when it presented itself.
The gamepad's design is great; it has the same yellow background as the PowerA Cuphead and Mugman controllers, but the Ms. Chalice design's analogue stick and buttons are a light chalk green color that perfectly complements the yellow. In addition, it has the well-known cartoonish explosions, stars, clouds, and some little hearts, along with boom pow battle clouds.
The figure herself, located on the bottom left side of the pad, completely completes the amazing-looking controller that all of this comes together to create. Regarding the buttons, this design follows the standard arrangement for a Switch controller. But since it's been improved, the back has three more. These are sophisticated gaming buttons that you can quickly swap out to better fit your current situation.
These additional buttons seem incredibly accessible because of the way they are laid up; you may touch them without having to spend any further money. Furthermore, every button is very sensitive; they feel sturdy, function flawlessly, and don't get stuck. In addition, the Ms. Chalice controller is very light and cozy to grasp. It feels organic in every way and is definitely durable enough for extended gaming sessions.
The gamepad doesn't have a charging port; it runs on batteries. The batteries, in my experience, last a very long time. I have not changed mine, and believe me when I say that I put this tiny piece of equipment through a rigorous test. Although I usually like rechargeable controllers, this one seems to last a long time, so that's good enough for me. At least, most of the time.
To be honest, I have no complaints with the Ms. Chalice controller. As a fan of Cuphead, it fulfills all my expectations since it has the cartoonish fun I associate with the game and because it's centered about Ms. Chalice. Even if I like Cuphead and Mugman, it's good to use their faithful companion to the fullest.
The performance and capabilities listed above make PowerA's Ms Chalice controller well worth the $54.99 price tag, in my opinion. You need go no farther than PowerA's Ms Chalice controller if you're looking for a fantastic improved wireless controller that not only satisfies your expectations for comfort and durability but also has a sleek style that you can show off. If you're a fan of Cuphead, that's the icing on the cake.
