Yamper

Yamper is a cute little corgi who makes his Pokémon debut in the eighth generation. He is a thundering attacker. We like the design of this dog Pokémon, which has tiny little legs, a lightning-bolt tail, and a tongue that falls out of its mouth. We would stop at nothing to keep it safe.

Though Yamper eventually transforms into Boltund, a greyhound-based character, we like Yamper in his original form.It is a wonderful little companion to discover early on in the Galar area, and it has that traditional corgi cushion. Its development, Boltund, may use the nuzzle move, which immobilizes your opponent and does light damage. With it, you may capture shinies and legendaries with great ease.

Snubbull

We want Snubbull to get justice. I like this pink, little fairy-type Pokémon despite its awful appearance. It is intended to resemble a bulldog, and like them, we love them despite all of their imperfections and believe they are far cuter than they may first seem.

In the anime, it also had an odd voice, which just made me fall in love with it more. Why was the bulldog Pokémon absent from the Galar in Britain? Except for Game Freak, nobody knows? You made a mistake.

Custom image of the official art for Lycanroc on a yellow background for best dog Pokemon guide

Lycanroc

Lycanroc is a werewolf-based creature that resembles a wolf more than a dog. It has two distinct forms, each of which it rocks in a different way. Although its pre-evolutionary form, Rockruff, is equally endearing, Lycanroc is one of the few instances in which a Pokémon's evolution manages to surpass its initial cuteness.

In Pokémon Sun & Moon, Lycanroc may be found in many forms that correspond to the contrast between day and night in the two games. Since then, it has been a regular feature as well, showing up in about every game in the main series. There's this very nice boy.

Fidough

Even though Fidough has only been around for a few generations, the Pokémon community already considers him to be one of the greatest dog Pokémon, and he has quickly ascended the rankings. These two puppies, who eventually developed into the equally cute Dachsbun, are strong fighters with powerful fairy strikes.

Even though we like Fidough, there is a problem that has to be addressed. Given that dough is used to make it, it would seem that dough is edible. You could, of course, argue that all Pokemon are edible if you're so motivated. None, however, seem nearly as appetizing as this little pastry dog.

Zorua

The very uncommon ability of the illusion Pokémon Zorua and its evolution Zoroark to mimic the look of another Pokémon in your party may provoke an ineffective move from your opponent against the elusive dark-type.

In any shape, it's lovely, but we particularly like these two's Hisuian forms, which have an ethereal, red and white wispy appearance that gives these already creepy dogs a little frightening edge.

Custom image of the official art for Houndour on a yellow background for best dog Pokemon guide

Houndour

Houndour is a quintessential dog Pokémon, from the era when Game Freak abandoned their goal of creating ugly puppies in favor of adorable ones, as shown by Yamper and Fidough. A fundamental memory of my gaming career is traveling to Johto with a Houndour during my very first gameplay of Pokémon Crystal. I will always have a particular place in my heart for this game.

It's hard to imagine this adorable puppy, with its long horns and really intimidating appearance, could possibly develop into the metal behemoth that is Mega Houndoom. He is a combined dark and fire-type. Although I'm not sure whether I could embrace one, I adore it.

Custom image of the official art for Growlithe on a yellow background for best dog Pokemon guide

Growlithe

It might be challenging to alter the original at times. Growlithe is one of the first generation Pokémon that really got the design the first time around, which is why it is so appreciated. Its positive outlook and development won it a lot of fans in the anime. Even now, Arcanine remains a magnificent mongrel that personifies the pinnacle of Pokémon evolution.

These two nice guys are still among the greatest dog Pokémon ever created, taking a solid design and improving upon it to create something even better. In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, they even get incredible new Hisuian forms that enhance the fire of the originals with the rock-type and further draw from Chinese culture to produce yet another fantastic rendition of these timeless games.

Custom image for best dog Pokemon guide with a Manectric on a yellow background

Manectric

Even though Manectric made an appearance in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, Gamefreak didn't really let this dog go until generation six with the arrival of mega evolution. Although it may not be the most adorable option on our list, it is among the most prepared for combat.

Manectric is among the fastest Pokémon available, with a basic speed stat of 105. He may cause confusion for his opponent by immobilizing other Pokémon with a variety of electric-type attacks. Its 105 special attack stat, which may destroy opponents that depend on water or flying-type party members, makes it more than merely swift. But, Manectric is a bit of a glass cannon due to his defensive and special defense ratings, so be careful when using this powerful dog to lead against any ground kinds.

Here are our selections for the series' finest dog-themed Pokémon. Check out our electricPokémon weakness, firePokémon weakness, and groundPokémon weakness guidelines if you want to prevent your ideal Pokémon from passing out.
