Nintendo takes home two Dice Awards in 2024.
The Dice Awards 2024 winners are revealed, and despite not taking home Game of the Year, Nintendo may be proud of their two wins this year. Rather, the largest prize went to Baldur's Gate 3, which took home four more honours, including Outstanding Achievement in Game Direction, Outstanding Achievement in Game Design, and Role Playing Game of the Year. The battle for the coveted award was very fierce, since new games for Mario, Zelda, and Spider-Man were released in 2023.
That being said, all three of them did get the honours they deserved; Super Mario Bros. Wonder from Nintendo won Family Game of the Year, while Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was named Adventure Game of the Year by ASIS. A quick glance at our reviews of Super Mario Bros. Wonder and Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom demonstrates why both Nintendo games are deserving of these accolades; both of them received our highly anticipated ten out of ten.
On the Nintendo front, the accolades didn't end there. Legendary composer Koji Kondo received recognition from ASIS for his extraordinary contributions throughout a 40-year career. His work with Nintendo includes a variety of IPs, including as Super Mario and The Legend of Zelda. The Super Mario Bros. overworld theme is still regarded by many as one of the most iconic soundtracks in video game history.
Going back to the awards, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 won six prizes, including Action Game of the Year, Outstanding Achievement in Animation, and Outstanding Achievement in Character. If you're interested, Spider-Man was the big winner of the evening in terms of sheer number of accolades. This year, Street Fighter 6, MLB: The Show, Diablo IV, Forza Motorsport, and Alan Wake 2 are among the other titles that have received some attention.
What The Car? is the winner of the Mobile Game of the Year award. It's a really entertaining game that makes you ask yourself "what" all the time as you play. You may relax knowing there is still a deserving winner even if Honkai Star Rail's loss makes you happy since it's as delightful as it is ridiculous.
