Policy for editing
For more than four years, SmartRead has been writing about the world of portable and mobile gaming. Over that period, we have refined our skills and established an editorial philosophy that mirrors our dedication to the field: generating excellent news, evaluations, guides, and features that are truthful, impartial, and fair.
Our whole editorial policy is shown below. Please get in touch with the editor if you think that our work does not live up to these expectations.
Corrections
Accuracy is important to SmartRead and Network N Media, so much so that it's one of their basic principles. Although staff and editors fact-check every story before it is published, mistakes are rare and will be corrected as soon as possible. The correction will be noted in an update box that is pinned to the top of the article.
Sources
SmartRead doesn't compensate any information source. Although anonymous sources will remain anonymous, their names will be verified before being published.
Embargoes and non-disclosure agreements
Non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) are often signed by SmartRead with video game and hardware developers to get early access or details about new projects. If an NDA is reasonable and does not jeopardize our ability to uphold the principles outlined in this policy, we will only sign it.
SmartRead may sometimes attend events as part of those NDAs in order to get firsthand knowledge of a certain product or speak with its developers. Payment for travel and lodging alone will be accepted on the website.
Likewise, SmartRead often gets complimentary games and merchandise in exchange for reviews and other contributions. Even when we get the goods for free, the decisions we make are our own.
A publisher or developer will never have any impact on our review score. Furthermore, we will never provide a publisher or developer the option to approve an article. Here's additional information about our evaluation process for games and items.
Conflict of interest
Every employee at SmartRead is expected to declare any conflicts of interest that could influence their decisions or compromise their journalistic objectivity. There will be no exceptions for staff members writing on topics in which they have a conflict of interest.
Attribution
Except in cases where the material has been sent directly to the editorial staff, SmartRead will always provide credit to the story's original source. Any images, videos, and social media postings that support or provide context to a narrative will also be given due credit.
Trumpets
We will sometimes decide to report on a rumor. Only if the rumor is true or we are able to independently verify it, will we act on it.
In addition, SmartRead executes many release date guidelines. A game or product's release date guide won't be published unless the developer has verified it. In the unlikely case that the precise release date is still unknown, this will be stated in the headline and text, and all pertinent data will lead to a realistic release frame.
Promotion
Ads on SmartRead are managed by Publisher Collective, a business that is not affiliated with Network N Media. As a result, the editorial staff is unable to control which advertisements are shown when.
These advertisements are approved or created in a way that reflects our company values. But if you think any advertisement hasn't lived up to your standards, please get in touch with the editor.
Advertised material
SmartRead sometimes collaborates with gaming companies to provide advertorials, or sponsored content. You can always determine whether an article is an advertisement or an original editorial since it will be clearly tagged as sponsored content.
Project N writes the pieces for the client, but SmartRead's editorial staff always has the last say to make sure they follow our editorial standards.
E-commerce, licensing, and affiliate links
SmartRead is written for ardent gamers and is managed by knowledgeable, enthusiast game journalists. We want to cover the newest gaming gear via our reviews, purchasing tips, and news, and we provide an unbiased, real-world tested opinion on whether or not to purchase a game or device. Our whole how we test page may be read here.
We pay our knowledgeable hardware staff via affiliate connections and licensing, among other means. When you buy a product or service that we've suggested, in the former scenario, we get a little commission. In the latter case, manufacturers may pay us to include a quotation if they would want to utilize our ratings, quotes, and awards for marketing purposes after our goods have been objectively and independently appraised.
Our editorial material is always objective, and we would never modify our opinions in reviews in an effort to get more customers to click through to stores or to collect a license fee. Furthermore, we don't take money from manufacturers in return for giving their products a better ranking in our guidelines.
We desire your confidence in our purchasing guidance, and we are open and honest about our revenue streams. Our homepage has a disclaimer stating that sometimes, links to retail shops may appear on SmartRead, and that our parent business Network N Media may get a small profit on sales made via these connections.
