Freddy's Five Nights 1

First published in August 2014

One of the most recognisable horror games of all time is still Five Nights at Freddy's 1, the little experience that served as the catalyst for the enormous series. The first game, which takes place in the early 1990s (probably around 1993), is a classic independent point-and-click game with survival horror elements. It places you in the shoes of Mike Shmidt, a night security guard, and challenges you to survive his first few days on the job at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza.

Although beginning a new job might be challenging, this one really wins the cake. The eatery is filled with terrifying animatronics that seem to be craving something more than pizza. Your primary objective is to make it through the whole shift without being chomped; to accomplish this, you'll need to monitor the surveillance cameras, control your power, and slam the doors if one of those terrible animatronics approaches too near.

Freddy's Two: Five Nights

First available on November 14, 2014

The main difference between Five Nights at Freddy's 2 and its predecessor is that the latter is set in November 1987 at the "new and improved" Freddy Fazbear's Pizza. With the most recent face recognition technology and connections to local criminal databases, a new cast of "kid-friendly" characters has joined the ageing and elderly animatronics. It is said that these characters can identify a villain from a distance. Regretfully, you seem to be a formidable adversary, and the previously stated "ageing animatronics" are also working against you.

You have to take on the role of the night security guard once again, keeping an eye on the cameras and ensuring sure nothing goes wrong after hours. But now you have merely a Freddy Fazbear head, which you may put on to deceive the characters into leaving you alone if they should 'accidentally' visit your workplace, in place of doors to keep those annoying bots out.

Freddy's Five Nights 3

First available on March 15, 2015

In Five Nights at Freddy's 3, which takes place approximately three decades after Freddy Fazbear's Pizza closed, the proprietors of Fazbear's Fright: The Horror Attraction buy the now-closed restaurant with the intention of bringing back the local legends and turning it into a dark attraction a la House of Horrors. Going above and beyond to recover anything that could have survived the decades of neglect and disaster, the Fazbear's Fright: The Horror Attraction crew finds one precious pearl amid the rubble: a single animatronic.

FNAF 3, a new take on the iconic FNAF gameplay loop, puts you back in the role of a night security guard with the primary objective being survival. There are no doors or lights because of how dilapidated the facility is; thus, your only means of survival is to play music and block vents. You may also restart any offline systems by utilising the repair panel.

This time, there's only one animatronic that may kill you, but there are six phantoms in all that can frighten you and draw the attention of the terrifying animatronic that's roaming the hallways.

Freddy's Five Nights 4

First available on July 15, 2015

Five Nights at Freddy's 4, a prequel to Fear Not, is set in 1983 and drastically deviates from the basic structure of the first two games, even though the gameplay mechanics are mostly the same. Now that the fear has followed you home, it's necessary for you to confront the creature under the bed.

You play as a youngster instead of a security guard, hiding in your bedroom late at night and fending off distorted, monster versions of the well-known characters. With only a reliable torch at your disposal, you have to search the closet, bed and doors while shining it to ward off the terrifying animatronics. One mistake might be the end of the game, so remain composed and pay attention to those auditory clues.

Freddy's Five Nights: The Sister Location

First published in December 2016

Toto, we're not in Fazbear's anymore. Five Nights at Freddy's: Sister Location, as the name implies, takes place in Circus Baby's Pizza World, a sister location with "cutting-edge animatronic entertainers that will knock your kids' socks off." Family fun and interactivity there "go beyond anything you've seen at those other pizza places."

You respond to an ad for a late-night technician position with Circus Baby Entertainment, noting that you "must enjoy cramped spaces and be comfortable around active machinery." Oh, and there's a disclaimer that states the business assumes no liability for injuries or fatalities. Nothing alarming at all.

Sister Location gives you some "free roam," unlike the previous games that had you confined to a single room. Apart from just staying alive, your primary goal is to go from room to room and do a list of twice-daily tasks. Naturally, in typical FNAF form, there are a tonne of disgusting animatronics to avoid as well as a number of mysteries to be found, such as minigames and several endings.

FNAF games - a screenshot from FNAF Pizzeria Simulator

Pizzeria Simulator by Freddy Fazbear

First available in June 2017

Despite being strange, Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator is crucial to the series' broader mythology. The fact that its save-data file is called "FNAF6" indicates that it belongs in the official list of games.

There are many distinct gameplay sections in this game. The first minigame is an 8-bit style game where your primary goal is to manage a pizzeria and make sure it's a safe place to be. If you don't succeed, you can wind up in court or, if you commit too many errors, you might even be banned. You deliver pizza, stock your pizzeria with things that enhance the ambiance, security, and entertainment, and stay out of trouble.

On the other hand, the game's alternate version has you seated in a poorly lit office in front of a computer that shows you a list of duties. From here, you have to repair a variety of broken and twisted animatronics in order to do the computer jobs and be paid. To get rid of any animatronics that may be loose in the pizzeria, you need also keep an eye out for them by turning on the computer fans, shining a torch into the vents and playing music in other parts of the facility.

Help Wanted: Five Nights at Freddy's

May 2019 is the first release date

FNAF VR, sometimes referred to as Five Nights at Freddy's: Help Wanted, is an assortment of vintage and unique minigames situated inside the FNAF realm. Although the game is compatible with virtual reality, you don't need one to play it, so don't worry if you don't have the money to get an Oculus.

There are forty playable minigames in Help Wanted, all of which are themed on your favourite deadly animatronics. In addition to enjoying an exciting end game that adds to the already substantial FNAF narrative, you may revisit the minigames in nightmare mode to increase the difficulty after finishing the game.

Special Delivery: Five Nights at Freddy's AR

November 2019 is the first release date .

The mobile alternative reality game Five Nights at Freddy's AR: Special Delivery challenges you to deal with broken animatronics in the real world. You can get your fave animatronics on-demand with Fazbear Entertainment's brand-new "Fazbear Funtime Service" subscription, so you'll never have to be alone! Isn't that beautiful?

But owing to a few... regrettable events, these travelling animatronics wind up experiencing a few malfunctions, which makes them assault subscribers rather than amuse them. Because of this, you have to deal with an unending stream of aggressive animatronics that pursue you around. Again, your primary objective is to just survive, but you have a lot of useful tools at your disposal, including a torch, a Freddy Fazbear mask, and the power to disable those deadly beasts with regulated shocks. However, beware—the animatronics also have a few tricks in their sleeves, like fur-coated suits.

Freddy's Five Nights: Security Vulnerability

December 2021 is the initial release date

I suppose you could say that Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach is a whole different animal from the previous FNAF games, particularly the first two installments. Security Breach is a free-roaming triple-A game with dazzling visuals, 3D models, and an abundance of horrors for you to experience, all while adhering to its survival genre origins. It also largely abandons the gritty, dilapidated look of its forerunners, setting the scene in a sleek, almost futuristic mall that is home to the very sophisticated Glamrock animatronics.

Oh, and you play the part of a youngster once again, FNAF's Gregory, while a security officer named Vanessa is there, much as in FNAF 4. Gregory, who has been imprisoned in Freddy Fazbear's Mega Pizzaplex for the night, teams up with Glamrock Freddy, who has been hacked and is now in "safe mode," which explains why he seems so much more sympathetic than in his prior incarnations.

It's fortunate that you have good ol' Freddy on your side as well, as the other animatronics will go after any intruders once night falls and the nighttime procedures kick in. If you wish to live, you'll need to do a lot of things like get into Freddy's costume, dodge around obstacles, use the building's surveillance cameras to map your escape, hurl items to fend off would-be attackers, and more. If you can avoid the Glamrock gang's attention long enough to have a look around, the Pizzaplex offers an abundance of collectibles, interesting anecdotes, and intriguing places to explore.

The platforms where Security Breach is accessible are as follows:

FNAF games in order of release date

Alright, so you may have noticed that the chronology swings around a lot even though we have listed every game above in order of release. For instance, FNAF 2 is set in 1987, whereas FNAF 1 is set in the early 1990s. If you know anything at all about this series, you probably already know how difficult it is to sort through the history and mythos.

Thus, for greater clarity, the following list of FNAF games is presented in chronological order:

  • Five Nights at Freddy’s 4 (set in 1983)
  • Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 (set in 1987)
  • Five Nights at Freddy’s: Sister Location (set between the late 1980’s and early 1990’s)
  • Five Nights at Freddy’s 1 (set in 1993)
  • Five Nights at Freddy’s 3 (set in 2023)
  • Five Nights at Freddy’s Pizzeria Simulator (set in 2023)
  • Five Nights at Freddy’s Help Wanted
  • Five Nights at Freddy’s: Special Delivery
  • Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach (set sometime between 2024 and 2029)

DLC and spin-off FNAF games

FNAF games - a promotional image showing FNAF World characters

/span>First published in January 2016

FNAF World is a peculiar one. With the whole cast of the FNAF television series included in this supposedly cheerful fantasy role-playing game, you may take control of your beloved animatronics and go on a "epic animated adventure." Discover a "world beneath worlds" that mirrors the behaviours and acts of the "flipside," where things have begun to get more and more warped and damaged. To return the land to its previous condition as a safe sanctuary for everyone who inhabit there, you must go further and deeper until you find the root of these glitches and monsters.

There are 48 playable characters in all, a tonne of alternative endings, and the choice to play on easy or hard mode, based on your desired level of difficulty. Two teams of four characters each are formed at first, and as you go, additional characters become available. The majority of the gameplay is travelling across the game world and discovering new locations, followed by turn-based random encounters and a variety of boss fights. When you beat foes, you get experience points and Faz Tokens. You may use the latter to purchase upgrades that will help you later in the game.

FNAF World was once made available as a premium game on Steam by Scott Cawthon. However, he removed the game and gave refunds to all customers who purchased it after running into several problems and criticism about how incomplete it was. Later on, he re-released it via Game Jolt at no cost.

Perfect Custom Evening

June 2018 is the first release date .

Ultimate Custom Night, a customised mix-and-match game with 50 programmable animatronics from seven different FNAF games, bills itself as the "ultimate FNAF mashup." Once again, you're stranded alone in an office and must repel deadly animatronics. However, this time, you control the horror—you get to choose which enemies to face, the degree of difficulty, and the challenge level you like.

As you develop an armoury of tools to get through the night, keep an eye out for the two side doors, two vents, and two hoses that flow straight into your office. Make excellent use of the heater, air conditioner, global music box, power generator, and other tools to keep those nasty guys at away if you want to finish the ultimate tasks. To add even more excitement, you may place laser traps in the vents and gather Faz-Coins, which you can then use to buy anything from the prize counter. As usual, keep a watchful eye on those Pirate Cove curtains—you can never underestimate a pirate's ingenuity.

A challenge menu with sixteen themed tasks, complete voice acting, and a tonne of unlockables, such as office skins and sequences, are all included in Ultimate Custom Night. You may thus be certain that even though this is a spin-off title, there will be plenty of mythology for you to discover.

The following platforms provide Ultimate Custom Night for purchase.

The movie Five Nights at Freddy's

Release date (October 27, 2023):

Even though it's not a FNAF game, Blumhouse's FNAF movie is an interesting endeavour set in the Five Nights at Freddy's world. This is especially true given that Matthew Lillard plays William Afton in the film. It has several allusions to the game's overarching history and appearances from numerous well-known FNAF content producers, including MatPat of Game Theorists.
