As of right moment, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is the series' best-selling game.
Yesterday, Nintendo released the latest sales figures for the Nintendo Switch and associated software during their most recent financial conference. According to recently updated data, the Nintendo Switch has sold about 93 million copies overall. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has sold 3.34 million units in the previous three months alone.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe now holds the record after surpassing Mario Kart Wii, which had 37.38 million lifetime sales. Furthermore, the Wii sold more than 100 million copies. As for the Nintendo Switch, it is a little more than halfway through its lifespan, if Doug Bowser from Nintendo is to be believed [via Polygon].
Mario Kart 9's release date seems improbable given the excellent attach rate and the Switch's impending meteoric rise in 2022. But with so many users, is it possible that Nintendo may utilise DLC to revitalise Mario Kart 8 Deluxe instead? Mario Kart Tour has an enormous amount of material added to it; in fact, adding circuits, characters, and unlockable costumes would be a welcome touch to what is undoubtedly the greatest Mario Kart game ever created.
