Less is more, according to a new rumour about the Samsung Galaxy S25 camera.

There's a new Samsung Galaxy S25 camera rumor circulating around that claims the firm is going back to a better-specced earlier model. Confirmation of the S25's design is still a ways off, considering Samsung just unveiled the S24 Ultra in January of this year.

Sperandio4Tech (@ISAQUES81), an X leaker, claims via GSM Arena that Samsung is testing the camera loadout of the S25 Ultra and that there is one less back camera than we anticipated. Although the Laser AF may easily be mistaken for a fifth camera, the current best Samsung phones, such as the S24 and S24 Ultra, feature four rear cameras. However, the new model seems to be doing away with the 10 MP 3x optical zoom telephoto in favour of incorporating it into the primary camera.

The S24 Ultra's camera quality wowed us in our 9/10 review, but it seems to be a problem for the Korean company as it released the third Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra camera fix since the device's introduction only a month ago. Time will tell whether the S25 Ultra's primary camera—which lacks a specialised zoom lens—can manage a 3x zoom, but we're eager to try this purportedly improved light-capturing capability.

It's not only Samsung that is allegedly changing up its camera approach; according to a new iPhone 16 case design leak, Apple is going back to a vertical rear camera arrangement after many years of using a diagonal camera setup. As flagship smartphones become more and more difficult to compare, it seems that manufacturers are utilising photography as the stage for their next power struggle.
