Some of Nintendo's best-ever games are the Wii U titles. Twilight Princess and Wind Waker, for example. Though the system has a rather negative reputation, we can't help but praise the hardware and its unexpectedly strong game selection. What are the top Wii U games, then? Yes, Zelda and Mario are on this list, as you can probably already guess, but there may still be some surprises.
Alternatively, you may read our top Mario games and Zelda games guides to find out just what misadventures the two Nintendo icons go into. We also have articles with Mario characters and Zelda characters to aid you with the people that accompany you on these crazy adventures.
The top Wii U games are as follows: Princess Twilight
Twilight Princess, which I really have on my Wii U games shelf, is one of the greatest Wii U games ever made and is highly recommended for fans of Nintendo's rather disappointing machine. It's also one of the best Zelda games available. Though that's more likely to be something considered for the Nintendo Switch 2, many really look forward to the day Ninty announces a Twilight Princess Switch port. You still need to set up the Wii U, Wii, or GameCube until that time.
Combat, exploration, and puzzle-solving are all prevalent in Twilight Princess, just as they are in every other excellent Zelda title. All you really need for a classic Zelda experience is essentially found in it.
Mass Effect 3
The Wii U version of Bioware's grandiose wrap-up to the first Mass Effect trilogy debuted a few months after the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 versions of the sci-fi role-playing game were published by Bioware and EA. One of the top role-playing games of the age and one of the greatest RPGs available on the Wii U is Mass Effect 3.Though you still have instant story-altering options in Mass Effect 3, you must ultimately confront the Reapers and bear the repercussions of your choices in the first two games. This makes Mass Effect 3 the last installment in the trilogy. Get ready to make some really difficult decisions. Regardless of your choice, there are instances when you suffer personal setbacks.Anticipate an exciting battle experience where you'll have to choose between using guns, biotics, and tech-based skills to defeat your adversaries. Not to mention the whole group of players you have at your disposal—keep in mind that some may fit your playstyle more naturally than others. To be honest, it's rather confusing that a
Mass Effect Switch port doesn't exist. Now that we think about it, the question is, why isn't there a Dragon Age Switch port? frustrating.
Splatoon
Who is not a Splatoon fan? Indeed, we all love this entertaining multiplayer experience, and the Wii U original is largely responsible for the enjoyment of Splatoon 2 and Splatoon 3 on the Nintendo Switch. Splatoon stands out on a platform bereft of enjoyable games, providing some of the finest multiplayer experiences on the Wii's successor—that is, when paired with titles like Mario.Check out our guide if you appreciate Splatoon 3 on the Switch and would want to know when the next
Splatoon 3 Splatfest is. We even have a collection of
Splatoon 3 codes that might help you get some freebies. With our
Splatoon 3 review, we can also tell you exactly how fantastic this game is. Oh, and don't forget to check out our
Splatoon 3 Side Order review now that the expansion is out.
Mario Kart 8
Mario games are, quite simply, a must on any list of Nintendo titles, and because Mario Kart is still a popular game, it makes the cut. Heck, it's so successful that instead of releasing Mario Kart 9 (which will undoubtedly be for the Switch's successor), Nintendo simply continues adding material to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on the Switch. Mario Kart 8 is a game that every Wii U user should play since it has fantastic vehicle customization, beloved characters, and memorable circuits. We can provide you more information on the Switch version in our
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Booster Course review. If you'd want additional information about the characters who race around the course, we also offer a guide for
Mario Kart characters.
Magnificent 101
After the Wonderful 101 was released in 2020 on the PC, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch, it became well-known. But they are remasters, you know. The Nintendo Wii U exclusive edition of the game gained a devoted following right away as gamers fell in love with the planet and its inhabitants. You get to command a swarm of heroes in The Wonderful 101 and guide them through many levels, each with a large number of civilians in need of a hero. The unite morphing feature, which allows heroes to transform into objects, is one of the most distinctive aspects of the game. The Wonderful 101 is one of the finest Wii U games available because of the mechanism, which makes excellent use of the Wii U gamepad—something that not many other games on the system could do.
Pikmin 3
Yes, Pikmin 4 is fantastic, and we are happy to talk about it at any moment, but we can't help but go back to Pikmin 3, a good game that elevates the Wii U's gaming catalog. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Pikmin series, you are a commander in control of up to 100 adorable tiny friends known as Pikmin in Pikmin 3. Pikmin fans know precisely what to anticipate. You get to explore a vivid world with your new pals, but it's not without its risks. You really need to know the advantages and disadvantages of each colored Pikmin since there are a lot of adversaries and bosses out to spoil your day. Sincerely, if you don't get this right, you're all doomed. Just get ready. It is terrifying to see a Pikmin die.You may read our
Pikmin 4 review to find out how wonderful the newest Pikmin game is. Warning: it's very good.
Chronicles X Enoblade
Many people are encouraged to purchase the system by the highly regarded role-playing game series Xenoblade Chronicles. Similar to that, Xenoblade Chronicles X provides one of the greatest experiences available for the Wii U library. Like each game in the series, you can anticipate intense combat, assembling a formidable crew to help you traverse an expansive open world, and immersing yourself in a narrative so rich in detail that you'll need to set aside hours to fully immerse yourself in it.
Zelda Wind Waker
Though our
Tears of the Kingdom review, some would argue that Wind Waker is the greatest Zelda game available, even surpassing Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. may contest that. For many, Wind Waker offers several quality-of-life enhancements that contribute to the overall enjoyment of the game, in addition to being a beautiful remaster with outstanding visuals and lighting. Perhaps one day we will even get a
Wind Waker Switch port.
Bayonetta 2
You better know that I will include Bayonetta on every list I get the opportunity to create since I adore her. In terms of Wii U games, Bayonetta 2, the endearing follow-up to the 2009 action-adventure game, is among the top
action games overall. You get to play as the Umbra Witch once again in the highly regarded sequel. You'll engage in hack-and-slash action as you take on different angels and demons.
Undercover Lego City
It just so happens that one of the greatest Wii U games is also one of the greatest Lego games. I'm not kidding when I say that Lego City Undercover is basically Grand Theft Auto on Lego scales. Even though you play as Chase, a real police officer, you still get to drive about the city with no regard for the surroundings or anybody who could be in your path; you can simply run them down. A little harsh for a police officer, but who am I to judge? The game wonderfully captures the chaotic atmosphere of Grand Theft Auto while maintaining all the funny charm one would expect from a Lego game. However, in contrast to Grand Theft Auto, where you just face police pursuit, smashing objects might earn you extra Lego pieces. That concludes our list of the top Wii U games, my dear reader. Do you agree with our selections? Did a favorite of yours not make the cut? In any case, inform us. While you wait, check out our selections of the top
