Characters from Hades: legend, blessings, mementos, and allies

One of the most alluring aspects of Supergiant's underworld action role-playing game is the cast of Hades, whose connections with you over your runs form the central plot. Even after a few hours of playing, there are a lot of inhabitants of Mount Olympus and the underworld to meet, so things might become a little complicated.

If you've already managed to avoid the terrible threat of damnation, how about embarking on a brand-new journey with our selections of the greatest games on Switch and mobile, such as Hades and the greatest games, such as Diablo? Take a look at our selection of the top zombie games if you want to take against the undead in the cities and on the streets. Now let's examine every Hades character, arranged into handy lists.

Characters from the House of Hades

Zagreus

Zagreus is our hero; he is the son of Hades and Persephone and the heir to the underworld. The majority of your time as the main character is spent accompanying Zagreus on his never-ending quest to escape the depths of hell, battle lethal demons, strike agreements with Olympians, and quarrel with your father about the afterlife's prospects or your mother's fate. But Zagreus isn't only thinking about it as an escape; if you reach certain milestones, our main character can fall in love with three of his fellow members of the House of Hades. You may read more about the three lovable characters who also reside in the underworld, Megaera, Thanatos, and Dusa, further down the page.

Hades
  • Keepsake: Sigil of the Dead – turns your call ability into Hades’ aid, giving your a brief period of invincibility
Hades, the god of the dead and Zagreus' father, is the major evil and parent behind the underworld. In addition, he is the last boss of every run, acting as the last hurdle Zag must overcome in order to reach the surface world. One of the main themes of the whole game is the connection between Hades and Zagreus, which undergoes an irreversible transformation before the end credits roll.

Nyx

  • Keepsake: Black Shawl – boosts damage dealt taken by undamaged enemies
Since his mother Persephone departed many years ago, Zagreus has been placed under the informal protection of Nyx, the personification of the darkness, in Hades. She has persuaded the Olympian gods to lend Zagreus their strength and to give him access to the power of the mirror of the night, which allows our hero to enhance his powers. Her job is to subtly aid Zagreus in his endeavor to flee his father's territory.Nyx is the mother of many major characters, including Charon, Thanatos, Hypnos, and the fates, in addition to taking care of Zagreus. Nyx is one of the most interconnected characters in the underworld because of these relationships and her cold attitude toward her own parent Chaos. A significant portion of the plot revolves around her relationship with her kids, particularly Hypnos, who she doesn't have time for.

Achilles

  • Keepsake: Myrmidon Bracer -reduces damage taken from the front, while slightly increasing damage taken from behind
  • Companion: Antos – summons Achilles and Patroclus to aid you in battle
Achilles is Hades' hype man, if there is one. Achilles is a well-named member of the supporting cast who has trained our hero since he was a small boy and encourages him to fight Zagreus in his conflicts. Achilles' story is mostly unknown, but it becomes more evident when he meets Patroclus in Elysium and discovers their shared background.

Pathocles

  • Keepsake: Broken Spearpoint – become invulnerable for a short period after taking damage
Although the spearman has taken sanctuary in Elysium, Pathoclus is not there when you first meet Achilles, despite being his long-term comrade in both battle and life. However, this works to Zag's advantage since he gives you access to a variety of consumables, including boss creatures from the area, that increase your strength for a few levels. Even better, Patroclus will still go to Elysium to assist you in times of need when the two do ultimately reconcile.Skelly
  • Keepsake: Lucky Tooth – revives you once during a run
  • Companion: Rib  – summons Skelly to distract opponents while you deal damage to them
Skelly is, to put it mildly, Zag's test subject for his armory of weapons. Other than that, not much has to be said about Skelly, but it's entertaining to give him some grief only to hear his clever retorts, which seem to be a little too much for the other inmates of the House of Hades.

"Eurydice"

  • Keepsake: Evergreen Acorn – take no damage from the initial hits in a boss battle
Eurydice, the abandoned wife of Orpheus, is punished to the depths of Asphodel for her husband's inability to turn away. She is a hybrid of a tree, nymph, deity, and human. She gives Zagreus special food that strengthens boons for upcoming battles, therefore her awful position in hell is something of a gift. The husband and wife team can be reunited, but not after you've won them over with a few presents and talks.

Orpheus

  • Keepsake: Distant Memory – take less damage from distant enemies
Hades's personal jukebox and Eurdice's distant spouse is Orpheus, the sad sack singer-songwriter of doom. Sadly, Zagreus's gifts and encouraging words have made his sadness so heavy that he hasn't been able to sing or play as beautifully as he once could since entering the halls of the dead.

Sisyphus (and Bouldy)

  • Keepsake: Shattered Shackle – boosts attack, special, and cast damage when you are carrying no boons
  • Companion: Shady – deal 1000 damage in an area before dropping a wealth of gold, health, and darkness
The charming Sisyphus does not quite refer to Hades' abode as his own. Eventually, he does have the choice to relocate there, but he chooses to stay in Bouldy's company and carry on with his road of unending suffering (though, it must be acknowledged, Sisyphus takes the torture a bit too well). Sisyphus is special because, if you're fortunate enough to locate him, he not only provides the players a health boost, jewels, or a kind of side goal to break free from his chains throughout the game's eleven stages. A question mark will appear above Sisyphus' room in Tartarus, indicating when you may visit him.

Persephone

  • Keepsake: Pom Blossom – gain +1 levels on a random boon every few dungeons
Alright, do you recall that we said spoilers? In order to avoid spoiling anything for yourself, go on to the heavier ones immediately. All set? Alright, good. Persephone plays a crucial role in the story of Hades because, via Nyx and some garbled words from his father, Zag discovers that she is alive and living in the outside world. This is why Zag is seeking to flee. Nevertheless, if you succeed in vanquishing Hades, you will ultimately come across Persephone, and after you pay her enough visits, she consents to return to Hades. After a few more runs, Hades and Persephone resume their conversation, with Zag's grandfather seeming to be as comfortable as ever as he sits on the underworld's throne.

Cerberus

  • Keepsake: Old Spiked Collar – begin your run with higher health

Cerberus is not just a wonderful kid, maybe even the finest boy ever (), but he also has three heads and watches over the gates of hell. In spite of this, Zagreus thinks Cerberus is a giant softy, and your large dog will gladly move aside for a treat bag, which coincidentally appears at the conclusion of every playthrough's last dungeon.

Has romantic characters that are

Hades is a deceptive dating game with three alternatives for prospective suitors, in addition to being one of the finest action games of recent years. Potential spouses include Thanatos, the embodiment of death, Dusa, the housegorgon, and Mageara, one of the furious sisters obstructing the entrance to Tartarus.Megaera

  • Keepsake: Skull Earring – increased battle damage when under 30% of full health
  • Companion: Battie – summon Megaera to deal 2500 damage in an AoE surrounding your closest enemy
Megaera, one of the three sisters that guard Tartarus' exit, is Hades' first boss and maybe Zagreus's favorite. From the beginning of the story, she is the most lovable character; she flirts with Zagreus in between threatening to rip him to pieces. On the other hand, if you keep Megeara presents and engage with her before you begin a new run, she quickly becomes softer, and she and Zag develop an unexpectedly sincere bond. Though Megaera and Thanatos, the following choice, are well aware of this, don't worry about not seeing the other possibilities since things are seldom exclusive in the underworld.Thanetos

  • Keepsake: Pierced Butterfly – boost your damage output for each dungeon you clear without taking damage
  • Companion: Mort – deal 3500 in the direction in front of you following a brief delay
Thanatos, Zagreus's boyhood buddy and easily likable embodiment of death, is the hooded hottie of Hades. Even while things aren't quite as tense as they are with Megaera at first, winning Thanatos over requires a lot of work, and eventually you'll have to choose between continuing to be friends and moving things further. Thanatos plays a significant role in many storylines as well, particularly in connection to his relationships with his brother Hypnos and mother Nyx. The moment you manage to persuade Thanatos to be a better brother to his ungainly sister is really one of the purest moments in all of Hades, and it contributes to the game's main theme of good transformation in circumstances that seem unavoidable.Dusa

  • Keepsake: Harpy Feather Duster – urns have a chance of containing health boosts when broken
  • Companion: Fidi – Dusa joins you on the field for 30 seconds, damaging and petrifying opponents
Ah, that gorgon head of yours. Personally, I think Dusa—the meek housekeeper with a soft spot for Zagreus—is the most endearing figure in Hades. The nature of your connection with Dusa differs greatly from that of Thanatos and Megaera since Zag must essentially persuade Dusa that she deserves to be heard, much alone have his emotions.Dusa is also the only one—at least, in a way—to reject Zagreus. At the conclusion of her storyline, there's a cutscene where she graciously declines the son of Hades because she doesn't desire a sexual connection and instead proposes a forever friendship to Zag. We adore Dusa and always will because of this.Characters representing Olympian and Chthonic gods that HadesIn addition to the Underworld's cast, Hades is teeming with Olympian Gods who are eager to bestow great blessings upon our hero Zagreus.Charon
  • Keepsake: Bone Hourglass – Well of Charon items last for more dungeons
Charon is a multi-talented deity. They can effortlessly navigate the Styx River, sell you goods in between monster levels, and quickly take down Zagreus for stealing. Charon, however, is not much of a talker, which is not surprising given that he is the son of Nyx, who isn't very talkative outside of providing crucial story details and whining about Hypnos.Chaos

  • Keepsake: Cosmic Egg – Go into chaos gates without sacrificing health, and improve the quality of chaos boons
Chaos is the incarnation of the enigmatic location from which Nyx and the Titans initially came in Hades, making him one of the most intriguing characters in the whole group. You may get these very potent boons by venturing through the Chaos portals that sporadically arise throughout your escape. However, they come at the expense of losing an ability for a few dungeons. Eventually, if Nyx and Chaos grant you enough favor, you may hire a home contractor to build a bridge between the house of Hades and Chaos. This will enable the two to reunite and provide you the opportunity to give ambrosia to the old figure.Hypnos

  • Keepsake: Chthonic Coin Purse – start your runs with some extra gold to spend
Maybe Hypnos has it the worst of all the gods that suffer from unfair treatment in Hades. He's bothersome to his mother, irritating to his brother, and, to be quite honest, irritating to me. Even yet, his side story provides some of Hades' many poignant moments, and even if he finally provides inconsequential but grating reminders of failure on the last run, it's difficult to picture the corridors of Hades without Hypnos.Athena

  • Keepsake: Owl Pendant – Increased chance of rare or better Athena boons
One of the first Olympians Zagreus encounters on his quest, Athena is the goddess of knowledge and battle strategy. She is also among the group's most stoic. Her late-game boons, which provide death defiance, or just a second life, are among the most sought-after in fast-paced Zagreus builds. Her defensive and reflective boons may quickly rescue a run.Aphrodite

  • Keepsake: Eternal Rose – Increased chance of rare or better Aphrodite boons
Aphrodite, the goddess of love, is known for her passionate flirtations with Zagreus, which often leave Hades' son flushed. Similar to this, her boons cause adversaries to become weaker, which increases the amount of damage suffered. This gives Zag even more advantage as she tears through Tartarus's populace and beyond. The love goddess will open up to you a little more if you can successfully solidify all three romantic connections in order to gain her favor totally.Above

Artemis

  • Keepsake: Adamant Arrowhead – Increased chance of rare or better Artemis boons
Among the other Olympians who bestow blessings to Zag on his quest is Artemis, the goddess of the hunt. She's one of the less obnoxious gods, with a slowly developing subplot that describes her connection with her former hunt companion and maybe more, Callisto. Her arrow-shot boons are also rather effective in a ranged Zagreus build.

Ares

  • Keepsake: Blood-Filled Vial – Increased chance of rare or better Ares boons
Ares is the god of battle; he does not represent the art of war, as Athena does, but rather the brutal, violent, combative aspect of war that permeates Greek mythology. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that all of Ares' boons are associated with doing huge harm. These include generating blade rifts that instantly deplete an opponent's HP or inflicting the doom state, which delivers double damage with every strike.Dionysus

  • Keepsake: Overflowing Cup – Increased chance of rare or better Dionysis boons
We all like a random deity, and Dionysus wins the prize for being the god of wine—or should we say the keg? Dionysus is undoubtedly one of the most endearing Olympians out there, with boons that provide the special hangover effect, a stacking self-damaging status, and a cheeky manner that makes you think he may be a romantic character—which, however, he isn't.Hermes
  • Keepsake: Lambent Plume – Increase movement speed and dodge chance for each quickly cleared dungeon
Hermes is a helpful and unpleasant figure, much like in almost every other Greek story. Although his boons are really helpful in that they allow for faster mobility or speedier cooldowns, they all come at the expense of a discussion with the young deity, who speaks as fast as you could imagine."Demeter"
  • Keepsake: Frostbitten Horn – Increased chance of rare or better Demeter boons
It's time to go ahead and spoiler-free again if you ignored the Persephone spoilers before. Demeter is principally the goddess of the seasons, although she also has general authority over the life-death cycle. She delivers many beam strikes that build swiftly for powerful damage, and her boons inflict cold, a stacking state condition that inhibits opponent mobility. She is also the mother of Persephone, who is lost in sorrow at her daughter's disappearance and doesn't seem to be aware of Zeus' first plan to take her. Despite the difficult start, Demeter accepts you as her grandchild when you finally figure out how to fit the parts together in a manner that works for everyone.Poseidon

  • Keepsake: Conch Shell – Increased chance of rare or better Poseidon boons
Poseidon, sometimes known as Uncle Poseidon since he is the Zagreus, is the god of the oceans. He has the ability to provide bounties of the sea, cause adversaries to be damaged while they are moving, and produce knockback waves. Look for glimmer patches in the water (or lava) to help you capture all 18 in-game fish, which will let you win over the aquatic overlord completely.Zeus

  • Keepsake: Thunder Signet – Increased chance of rare or better Zeus boons
The god of gods, the lord of lightning, and—in the context of Hades—the worst brother in all of mythology—Zeus is one of the many boon-giving gods helping Zagreus escape. He has two special abilities: a jolted status effect that causes opponents to deal damage to themselves, and a chain-lightening effect that pulverizes groups of enemies.Even though Zeus makes an amiable uncle-like appearance early in the game, what you discover about Hades' destiny illuminates a little more of the god's darker side, and the main driving force for most of the story is his remorse over Hades' perpetual spell in the underworld.Boss characters are disliked

Alecto

Alecto, the first of Megaera's furious sisters you encounter after defeating your prospective fiancée in a few fights, is also unable to pursue a romantic relationship with Zagreus; instead, she is tasked with protecting the escape from their common territory. She still has the same strength as her sisters, which makes Zag cautious during their numerous conflicts.Phone

Tisiphone has some of the strongest growth in Hades, despite her subtlety, and seems to be a one-note substitute for Megara once you've defeated her a few times. Zagreus expands her vocabulary beyond the word "murder" by adding Zag's name, and although she draws the line there, it's still a step in the right direction.Hydra

The Hydra is by far my favorite boss fight in Hades; it differs significantly from the normal combat after your first escape, adding a layer of difficulty. Regardless matter every Hydra variety you encounter over your journeys through Asphodel, Zagreus manages to establish a kind of bond with the beast - a quintessential Zagreus relationship.Theseus

Theseus is disliked by us. Along with Asterius, the minotaur he famously murdered, he forms the last boss pair before leaving Elysium, attempting to prevent Zag from escaping. Nearly every other character in Hades have a redeeming quality; Hypnos is genuine, Demeter is resolute, but Theseus? Theseus is not a winner. You give him the sharp edge in exchange for all the snark he gives you.Asteria

Asterius is really very cool, in contrast to Theseus. A mutual respect between Asterius and Zagreus emerges during their first encounters with the minotaur, both as a mini-boss and as a member of the Elysium major boss pair, leading to a kind of camaraderie that is not at all applicable to Theseus. Again, to reiterate, Theseus is a loser. So there you have it—a comprehensive guide to every character in Hades.
