You'll regret not purchasing these Switch games in 10 years.
The Nintendo Switch games catalog is enormous and includes a ton of timeless titles that will be much appreciated in the future. Games that cost $50 now will probably cost over $100 in ten years, as is the case with every Nintendo system generation. It has happened to me on every previous console.
As someone who has loved Nintendo for as long as I have, you begin to predict which games will become very expensive and which ones could become less expensive. Some goods, like the Mario series, are constantly in great demand and never go down in price. Other, less popular alternatives, on the other hand, won't go up in price due to low demand or an overabundance of second-hand copies.
Although some may not be worthy of being included in the list of the greatest Switch games, if you're a collector, you want to consider purchasing them as soon as possible. Although we are unsure whether the best Nintendo Switch console will be the Nintendo Switch 2, we do know that the original games will become more difficult to locate. The Nintendo Switch 2 is now on its way.
Skyrim
The Elder Scrolls VDate of release: November 11, 2017Creator: Bethesda Studios Bethesda Softworks PublisherRight now's costs:One of the first titles to be released on the Switch was this one, and when it initially came out in 2017, it was really amazing to think that you could play one of the greatest action RPGs ever made on the move. But these days, it's rare to buy this game in physical shops, and when you can find it online, the price is exactly the same as it was when it was first released. I don't believe the price will ever go down, and because Microsoft now owns Bethesda, reprint issues are probably going to arise. While it may not be the final version of Skyrim, it does have one awesome feature that makes it stand out from previous versions: Zelda content. Yes, Link's attire, the Master Sword, and the Hylian Shield are all unlocked equipment to correspond with the release of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Many people will likely forget that Skyrim was available on the Switch in the years to come, but devoted fans will undoubtedly be eager to get this intriguing piece of history.Super Mario 3D All-Stars Date of release: 2018, SeptemberCreator: Nintendo EPD Publisher: Nintendo
Right now's prices:The price of this one is already beginning to rise, and Nintendo is solely to blame for it. This collection, which was released to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the Super Mario series, includes the soundtracks of all three of the remastered Super Mario games: Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy. Having the definitive versions of these three well-loved Mario games is a neat little gift. Its short lifespan—you could only purchase it brand-new for six months—guaranteed that it would quickly appreciate in value and turn into a pricey collector's item. Some may think the present price of the collection of three games over 17 to be a little excessive, but we'll have to wait and see. One day, people will spend hundreds of dollars for this.
Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1Date of release: 24 October 2023
Creator: Konami Publishing House: KonamiRight now's prices:This is just the sixth time a Metal Gear game has been released on a Nintendo console, and it contains the original three Metal Gear Solid games along with a ton of bonus goodies. All of them now have extremely high price tags, with the exception of Metal Gear and Snake's Revenge on the NES (which cost between $10 and $20). Metal Gear Solid on the Game Boy Color is valued between $200 and $300, Metal Gear Solid: Twin Sneaks on the GameCube is worth roughly $100, and Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D on the 3DS is priced similarly.Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 is probably going to do the same, and not only because it's a Metal Gear game. This is confirmed as a late game in the Switch's lifecycle since, as we now know, the Switch successor isn't too far away. Previous generations have shown that games launched later in a console's lifespan tend to end up seeing price inflation more often over time.Set Three Houses on Fire
Date of release: July 26, 2019Developer: Intelligent Systems Nintendo Publisher:Right now's prices:Three Houses is among the greatest games in the Fire Emblem series, which has grown to be one of the most played IPs on Nintendo hardware. We included it in our compilation of the top tactics games, and I have no doubt that players will want to keep coming back to it in the future. Furthermore, I have no doubt that the final cost will be high. When Fire Emblem Three Houses was first released, the pricing of Fire Emblem Awakening and Fire Emblem Fates for the Nintendo 3DS was almost the same. However, Echoes, the last Fire Emblem game on the system, isn't as expensive. In the meanwhile, the Fire Emblem titles for the GameCube and Wii are valued between $200 and $300 and $100 and $200, respectively. Although I don't think the price of Three Houses would ever drop, I would be shocked if it didn't start rising right away.Laylee Yooka
Date of release: September 7, 2018
Creator: Playtonic GamesPublisher: Exclusive Games
Right now's prices:Limited Run Games has produced several physical Switch releases; as the name suggests, they don't print them in big numbers. I could theoretically load this list with Limited Run releases, but I wanted to concentrate on Yooka-Laylee, which is essentially Rare's Banjo-Kazooie series' spiritual successor. It was once intended to launch on the Wii U, but the platform's development was eventually abandoned. The game was later released physically on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, although the Switch version—which was only available digitally at first—was eight months behind schedule. Considering how much the game resembles something Nintendo fans would like, it's very ironic. Yooka-Laylee physical copies on Switch are already valued at more over $100, and I have no doubt that number will climb significantly over time as Playtonic expands.Pass for the Pokémon Sword and Shield Expansion
Date of Release: Friday, November 6, 2020Creator: Game FreakPublisher: Nintendo
Right now's prices:Another series where the games consistently end up becoming quite expensive is Pokémon. Even if you just include the main series, there are still a few Pokémon Switch games. While I think all of these will make excellent investments, I do believe that the actual Pokemon Sword and Shield Expansion Pass will be the most costly in the coming years. When Nintendo stops supporting the Nintendo Switch online, players who want to play Pokemon Sword and Shield and its DLC will no longer be able to do so without the help of this (already very uncommon) game card. Although purchasing one of these now costs more than $100 (though, to be fair, that's not much more than the price of the game plus the DLC), I have no doubt that 2034 enthusiasts will do whatever it takes to locate one at such a cheap price. If you're more interested in Pokémon cards, Wargamer, our sister website, has information on the most valuable cards in the game. Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year DoorDate of Release: May 23, 2024 Intelligent Systems DeveloperPublisher: Nintendo Right now's prices:One of the cult favorites is Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. Nowadays, the original GameCube edition is valued at around $100, so fans were ecstatic to learn that an improved version will be arriving for the Nintendo Switch. It's possible that a new, legal method to play the game may devalue the original, but history will likely repeat itself in my opinion. The game is almost legendary, thus players will constantly want to find it. The number of Switch owners who want to test it out over the next ten years will likely be much higher than the number of GameCube owners; these owners will likely choose the new, more accessible model, which will undoubtedly see a sharp increase in price. This will only be exacerbated by the fact that the game is a late release on the Switch.Hyrule's cadence
Date of release: October 23, 2020
Creator: Games to Brace Yourself Publisher: NintendoRight now's prices:Another independent game that was first exclusively available digitally is Cadence of Hyrule. The game is unique in that it's a rare example of Nintendo allowing a smaller independent developer to create something using one of its most well-known intellectual properties. Video games Zelda almost usually appreciate in value over time, and this one seems particularly likely to do so in my opinion.A re-release of the game may be challenging in the future due to its crossover with the Crypt of the NecroDancer series. Unlike Ocarine of Time, Twilight Princess, and the majority of other titles in the series, Nintendo would need to negotiate with Brace Yourself titles before a re-release could take place. Even if their relationship seems to be going well right now, you never know when something like this may happen. Although the uniqueness of this Zelda game alone will probably increase its worth, I believe you should get it now because of its legally more complex existence.Fire Emblem: Blade of Light and Shadow Dragon
Date of Release: Friday, December 4, 2020Creator: Sensible Systems Publisher: Nintendo
Right now's prices:Out of all the games on the list, this is the only one without an actual game card. Similar to Super Mario 3D All-Stars, Nintendo published this game in a way that was mostly unfriendly to customers; it was offered for download on the Switch eShop for four months before being taken from the list. This was the first (and only) occasion that the original Fire Emblem game was released in English and outside of Japan (not including the DS version, which costs around $70).You still have a chance to download this game, even if you regret not doing so. It was a limited physical release that looked like a NES game packaging. It included with an artbook, the game's download code, and a fake NES cartridge that is regrettably unusable. These codes are still valid even if it is no longer available in the store. These now sell for roughly $200, but as more codes are redeemed, the value of each ticket decreases and new codes cannot be obtained.Fear of Metroids

Right now's prices:There's something about 2D Metroid games that always seems to drive up the price. One of the final 3DS games, Metroid: Samus Returns, hasn't decreased in price and is gradually going up. Looking farther back, you can see that Metroid Fusion (for the same platform) can often bring around $60 or so if it's sold in decent condition, while Metroid Zero Mission (for the GBA) is now valued at over $100. Metroid Prime Trilogy, a Wii game that isn't 2D, is now valued at more over $100.Perhaps since there aren't as many Metroid games as there are in other series, it simply feels like that's how things always are. At most, the amount you would spend now to purchase a brand-new game would be the same price your future self would pay to get it pre-owned.Though I am not able to see into the future, I have seen trends having lived through the SNES, N64, GameCube, Wii, and Wii U periods. The games that wind up being very pricey are usually the same kind of games or games published under similar conditions.
