Switch 2 was purportedly postponed until 2025 in order to improve the release lineup.

There are rumors stating that Nintendo has delayed the Switch 2, while we really hope this isn't the case. The report of the delay for the yet-to-be-named Switch replacement has been verified by VGC, Bloomberg, and Eurogamer, citing many sources inside the gaming industry.

The disheartening news of the console's postponed release date was first revealed by Brazilian journalist Pedro Henrique Lutti Lippe via Twitter, which was first covered by VGC. Lippe claims that at least five different sources from across the world have confirmed that the Nintendo Switch 2 won't be released until 2025.

Subsequently, industry sources cited by Eurogamer and Bloomberg have confirmed the postponement, citing a Q1 2025 release date to ensure that it remains inside the 2024 fiscal year. It's not ideal to miss the winter holiday market, but according to Eurogamer, this decision was made "to ensure Switch 2's launch line-up features as many titles as possible." Nintendo's first-party release calendar for 2024 seems to be a bit light at this point, with only two ports and the release date of Princess Peach: Showtime standing out.

Nintendo "will still try to keep the blockbusters for the next console, so 2024 might see more remakes of old Nintendo hits," according to Kantan Games CEO and Tokyo-based analyst Serkan Toto. Perhaps this year will see the release of the much-awaited Wind Waker Switch, Twilight Princess Switch, and Majora's Mask Switch remakes!

Naturally, all of this is conjecture and unidentified suggestions, since Nintendo has not released any information about the Switch's replacement. We'll just have to wait and see. Previously, President Shuntaro Furukawa pledged to talk about the company's future intentions once Nintendo releases its profits for the March quarter.

That's all the information available to us on Nintendo's delay of the Switch 2. Even if there aren't many first-party releases this year, there are still plenty of incredible new Switch games to look forward to.
