Let's dive into our selection of the top Nintendo Switch games that resemble Pokémon.
Respected JRPG series SMT is produced by Atlus, the same company that makes Persona (a Megami Tensei spin-off). Both Shin Megami Tensei V and Shin Megami Tensei III are available on the Switch, and although they're both excellent, SMT V is particularly noteworthy.
Even though these role-playing games are very challenging, you do have to capture, raise, fuse, and use demons in combat. enslaving beings with consciousness! That is very Pokémon. (To find out why it's so fantastic, also read our Shin Megami Tensei V review).
Slim Rancher
Ever wished you could raise a farm of Pokémon, but they all seemed like Dragon Quest slimes walking door-to-door? Then you should play Slime Rancher. Assuming the persona of Beatrix LeBeau, you go on a journey to become a rancher, enjoying yourself while producing slimes and plorts. Check out ourSlime Rancher slimes guide for tips and tricks if you want to become a great rancher.
We really hope that Slime Rancher 2 comes to the Nintendo Switch since we're curious to find out what happens to Beatrix in the end. Our sister website PCGamesN has an excellent tutorial to the Slime Rancher 2 slimes if you'd want to play it on a computer. Oh, and in case you missed it, a Slime Rancher movie is now under development.
Dragon Quest XI: Reflections of a Mysterious Era
In relation to slimes... Probably the greatest JRPG series ever is Dragon Quest. In the West, however, it never quite takes off. But in Japan, it is megaton-sized. And for good reason—it's incredible!
While it's true that Pokémon heavily borrowed (read: plagiarised) DQ's monster designs, one might argue that Pokémon is inferior to DQ since you can't catch them. Simply kill them. Much nicer, in fact. You'll also undoubtedly enjoy yourself since Dragon Quest's turn-based combat is so well-balanced—even better than Pokémon.
Monstrous Sanctuary
In Monster Sanctuary, a game created by Moi Rai Games, you must capture monsters and use them against opponents. Thus far, so good for Pokémon. It is also a Metroidvania, so you'll find different exploring and platforming obstacles.
Even so, you may utilise your monsters to aid in your globe travels. Just as you would pick a companion Pokémon at first, choose your ghostly familiar before setting out to preserve the monster refuge. It's a pretty good game with lovely graphics.
Ni No Kuni
An RPG created by the amazing Level-5 including Studio Ghibli animation? Enrol me, please. That's the nature of Ni No Kuni. While our Ni No Kuni II review demonstrates that the second game, Revenant Kingdom, wasn't the finest, the first game, Wrath of the White Witch, is definitely worth a look.Although it received a rather mixed bag of reviews when it was reissued on Switch, it seems to have been given a second look. It is not only a very beautiful video game, but it also has a well-designed fighting system that masterfully combines action and turn-based combat aspects. Yes, it is another game similar to Pokémon. In addition, you may tame animals and utilise them in combat.
