Even with your children, Nintendo does not want you to share your Switch.

Nintendo's 2024 financial results indicates that the family-friendly gaming behemoth isn't happy with one Nintendo Switch system per home. The company's goal is to have "several in every home, or even one for every person" by the conclusion of the next fiscal year.

Big announcements from Nintendo were made this morning. The well-known corporation tweeted the most informal manner imaginable to disclose the Nintendo Switch 2 and issued its financial report for the preceding fiscal year. Even with the intense build-up to the release of the first hybrid console eight years ago and the Nintendo Switch 2, the business managed to sell an astounding 15.7 million copies of the original Switch, Switch Lite, and OLED variants in 2023–2024.

Nintendo's major releases fared very well last year, despite declines in sales of both hardware and software. Super Mario Bros. Wonder made 13.44 million, Tears of the Kingdom over 20 million, and the most recent Pikmin game sold close to 3.5 million copies. We're not surprised that the three releases sold so well, given that we rated them all a 10/10.

These three games are only a few of the thirty-one Switch games that have sold over a million copies so far this year, from both Nintendo and independent publishers. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe also became a member of the one million club, perhaps as a result of the popularity of The Super Mario Bros. Movie in April 2023 and the release of its last DLC wave. It's encouraging to see that the Switch's past catalogue is sustaining Nintendo's first-party game line, given the rest of 2024 seems to be rather quiet for the company.
