Galaga Wars

Even though there are a tonne of realistic flight simulators available these days, Galaga and its twin Xevious were among the first flight simulators in 1981. Even if you're not really on an aircraft but rather a spaceship, you're nevertheless experiencing the same feel of flying. Galaga Wars adds a contemporary touch to this timeless game. The experience is much the same as it was all those years ago (not that you would want too much to change), but there are a tonne of more boats to unlock, many of them are based on other Namco properties, including a Pac-Man shuttle! and a stronger feeling of advancement, with more stages to complete. Galaga Wars is a fun game to play if you like soaring about in old arcade games.Screenshot of battling plane in Ace of the Skies of Plane games guide

Switch

Red Wings: Aces of the SkyRed Wings: Aces of the Sky is an exciting dogfighting game that puts you in control of a fighter jet inspired by World War II. You can't ask for much more from a dogfighting simulator when it comes to the abundance of vintage aircraft to fly, an interesting plot starring the renowned Red Baron, and a decent selection of places to burst into gunfire.Red Wings: Aces of the Sky allows you both online and split-screen multiplayer, which makes for some intense aerial combat if you'd rather take to the skies with buddies. Beautiful cell-shaded visuals that have a distinct Borderlands vibe to them elevate everything.Screenshot of using a glider like a plane in Zelda: TotK for plane games guide

Tears of the Kingdom: The Legend of Zelda - Switch

Okay, so this may surprise you, but Tears of the Kingdom is now practically a plane game thanks to the inclusion of the ultrahand ability. You can, in fact, build your own aircraft and effortlessly fly across Hyrule—I'm not talking about big jets here, but more like a Zonai replica. With a Zonai glider and a couple rockets, who needs first class anyway? There's lots to do in TotK besides flying and gliding, and our guides to Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom gleeoks, Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom koroks, Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom depths will be of assistance. Check out ourZelda: Tears of the Kingdom review for some great reading to do while in flight.Screenshot of a landing plane in Airline Commander for plane games guide

Mobile version of Airline Commander: Flight Game

Although there are several imitative mobile apps for Microsoft's well-known Flight Simulator, Airline Commander: Flight Game may be the greatest one available for the Switch. Although there aren't many, we have to choose one, and this is it.With the deep simulator engine combined with eye-catching in-flight visuals, you can choose your fleet of pilots, arrange your routes, and go to work moving the good people of Earth from one place to another. You'll have to take flight in whatever manner you can until the real Flight Simulator experience makes its way to mobile devices, even if the quality may not be as good.Screenshot of a small plane over a dusty landscape in Infinite Flight for plane games guide

Mobile - Infinite Flight

Since its introduction, Infinite flying—the closest thing to a real flying simulator on the go—has seen steady growth. Although there were some poor quality aircraft models in the beginning, this flying game is currently competitive and provides a very realistic experience for people who want that kind of experience. There are also many of options for flying here. You may watch your steel bird soar through the sky with a variety of camera choices, or you can climb inside the cockpit and take the controls yourself. Assuming you avoid flying across the Bermuda Triangle, you should have a pleasant experience.Screenshot of a landing in Pilotwings for plane games guide

Pilotwings 64: Switch (NSO)One of the best aircraft games ever is Pilotwings 64. Pilotwings, which is now playable via the Nintendo Switch Online Nintendo 64 game library, may seem like a straightforward game about taking off and landing, but there's a certain something about the way it works that makes it impossible to put down.Even while it may not have as many characters or planes as other contemporary flight simulators, it's still worthwhile to play this classic flying simulator to discover why Nintendo 64 fans like it. In any case, it's one for the retro-gamers.Screenshot of an airport from Jumbo Airport Story for plane games guide

The Story of Jumbo Airport - Switch

It only seems reasonable that we add the airport simulator game developed by Kairosoft in our list of the greatest aircraft games, because they seem to have a game for everything, from Game Dev Story to the Ramen Sensei.Never let the simplistic visuals deceive you—Kairosoft's tycoon game is surprisingly intricate, offering a plethora of customisation possibilities to personalise your own LAX or Heathrow. Even though you won't be taking off in this game, you'll undoubtedly feel like the wealthiest airport in the area after you achieve that goal.Screenshot of a dogfight in Wings of Heroes for plane games guide

Heroes' Wings: A mobile app

Wings of Heroes, another game by RORTOS, the company behind Airline Commander: Flight Game, replaces domestic travel with perilous dogfights over warring countries in the air. While there are additional dogfight-themed games on our list, not as many of them have the authentic sense of 1944's sky.Featuring some of the most well-known aircraft from all the WWII documentaries your grandfather made you watch, this title is like to a high-definition, gun-turreted history lecture. Even better, you may improve the aircraft you choose, which will make it simpler to claim the title of "sky legend."Screenshot of a jet fighter in Sky Gamblers for plane games list

Sky Gamblers on mobile and Switch

The Sky Gamblers series, which includes some of the greatest portable flying games available, delivers plenty of excitement in a user-friendly packaging. I've always thought it strange that this series doesn't get more attention since it has exciting dogfights, excellent visuals, and a tonne of replay potential. It's pretty dang difficult to build a decent dogfighting game, but Sky Gamblers achieves it quite well, despite the genre not being that popular. Although this choice isn't quite as soothing as some of the others on our list, it's still a fantastic choice if you want fast-paced, high-octane action.Screenshot of plane options in Merge Plane for plane games guide

Combine Plane – portable

Merge Plane is an excellent idle game if you'd prefer not spend any time at all. You may spend hours tapping the screen to have your aeroplane continue to make money for you. The unique feature of crossing across different sorts of planes to build new ones keeps the fingers tapping even if the material isn't as challenging as the other plane games on our list. The main objective of this idle game, like most others, is to accumulate resources. To keep the money coming in, you must spend a lot of time creating new aircraft and using them. To expand your virtual hangar even more, just remember to keep your aircraft in the air.Screenshot of a bomber plane floating through the sky in Bomber Crew for plane games list

Switch and mobile bomber crew

A WWII-themed management simulation is called Bomber Crew. Before embarking on a perilous journey to defeat the enemy, you must oversee your team, including their attire and various tasks. Although it's a difficult task, someone has to do it.Anything may go wrong during a flight, including gasoline leaks, engine problems, and even too much harm to your crew. This flight sim could be the one for you if you're searching through our selection of aeroplane games for something that engages the player's mind with a plethora of menus and possibilities.Screenshot of a bareel roll in the Fly Plane for plane games guide

Switch

to launch The Fly Plane: Flight Simulator. The Fly Plane: Flight Simulator is the game for you if you're searching for something completely different from your typical aviation simulation. This game substitutes the actual world's terrain with buildings that penetrate the sky in shades of pink, purple, and orange. One of the most distinctive experiences in the genre available on Switch is Fly Plane, which gives you a fresh perspective on how good you are behind the yoke. Perhaps simply avoid trying this one really late at night as we don't know what kind of strange dream it could induce.Screenshot of a car jumping into a plane in Jump Into the Plane for plane games guide

Enter the Aircraft and Flip

Okay, so this one may be a little strange, but its idea alone makes it worthy of a spot on our list of the greatest aircraft games. Jump Into The Plane is a game where you drive a vehicle up a ramp and attempt to land it inside of a moving aeroplane. If you can't tell from the title, I'm criticising you a bit.It seems absurd, doesn't it? It true, but you can have surprisingly good time attempting to find the right angle to slot your Ferrari into the rear of a military cargo jet for less than twenty bucks.A plan barrelling through a desert area in Sky Rogue for best plane games guide

Sky Rogue - SwitchSky Rogue is a throwback choice for our list of aeroplane games, its frantic gameplay and basic visuals evoking some serious PS1 memories. There is a tonne of replay value here, with an endless supply of procedurally produced landscapes that go as high as the sky.The Switch version of Sky Rogue has an additional feature. Throughout the infinite game realms, you may navigate your aircraft using motion controls and the Joy-Cons as a yoke. Although it has less multiplayer content than some of the other games on our list, it's still a very interesting game to play alone.Screenshot of Flying Motorbike Simulator with a passenger on a flying bike for best plane games guide

Is it an aircraft, Flying Motorbike Simulator

? Is it a motorbike? No, both of them are! With its depiction of flying motorcycles, this game does exactly what it advertises. However, because these motorcycles are carrying people and have wings, we are classifying them as aircraft for the sake of this book, and in my opinion, that meets the requirements.Even if the visuals aren't the best on our list, there's something hauntingly captivating about this game that makes you want to keep playing so you can ride your bike over the city and carry more consumers. Additionally, you may enjoy the rush of barrel-rolling a superbike without spending a single penny since the game is free to play.Screenshot from Take Off: The Flight Simulator for best plane games guide

Launch: The Flying Simulator - Press

Take Off: We like the Flight Simulator because it does exactly what it says on the package. To be honest, the Switch will never be able to handle Microsoft's legendary flight simulation game, but if you don't mind a little less complexity in the mechanics and a little more basic graphics, you can still have a great time flying over the skies with this game. There's no lack of material to delve into with 24 aircraft to pilot, 21 places to explore, and over 50 missions to test your mettle on. Although it may be the final item on our list, it is by no means the least interesting. These are our selections for the top smartphone and Switch aircraft games. Check out our selections for the topspace games on Switch and mobile if you'd like to float across the cosmos rather than the beautiful sky above us.
