The best mobile RPGs have common themes that are also present in their PC and console cousins, at least partially. Anticipate expansive settings, protracted and captivating narratives, multifaceted people, and intricate systems to get acquainted with. Yes, there are many "RPGs" available on mobile devices that lack any of the aforementioned features, but they won't be on our list.
Each and every one of our selections, which span from fantastic mobile exclusives to genre-defining adaptations, exudes quality and content. It's so much so that you may want to schedule a longer commute or take a week off from work. We have this for the long run with you.
Let's go right into our list of the top RPGs for mobile devices on iOS and Android, without further ado.
The Mushroom Legend
Legend of Mushroom is the only RPG you need if you're searching for a relaxing game with endearing characters. In this relaxed idle adventure, take control of your new tiny mushroom companion and rush into combat with a group of cute creatures. You may also accumulate wishes to get new equipment, compete against other players in the arena, go resource mining, and more.
It's simple and lovely, but it will grow on you—it has on us, for sure! Check out our Legend of Mushroom tier list and get some freebies from our Legend of Mushroom coupons if you're prepared to grow your new journey.
Free play is available for Legend of Mushroom.Cat Quest 2
More than a revolution, Cat Quest 2 is an evolution. This time, you can go through the full journey with a companion, but it still looks and plays the same. That alone is a game-changer. I'm sorry, but anyone who find bad puns about cats offensive could watch meow-t.

Shadow Legends Raid
An amazing role-playing game available on PC and mobile devices is Raid: Shadow Legends. There are many different heroes to gather and challenges to overcome. For a head start, see our
Tier list for Shadow Legends raid.Next, use our playing tutorial to discover how to do it on a large screen.

The Epic Seven
Turn-based role-playing games are beloved by everybody. It is perfectly rewarding to meticulously plan your movements and then watch those experience points add up. In order to lead your team of heroes through a succession of fights and eventually advance through the main plot, you must first assemble and improve your own team of heroes in this free-to-play gacha game. The gorgeous anime graphic style of this game, which perfectly complements the animated cutscenes that advance the plot, is what makes it so captivating. With so many interactions at your disposal, you will, in the meanwhile, really come to love the people on your squad; the fact that they were chosen at random, making them more special to you, strengthens your attachment.
No cost to play Epic Seven.<
Impact of Genshin
In the newest installment of the "Impact" series, which also includes Honkai Impact 3rd for mobile devices, Breath of the Wild goes JRPG with
Genshin Impact. You'll meet a lot of people, delve into a complex plot, discover an expansive map, and engage in combat inside dungeons. In addition to our
Genshin Impact review,
Genshin Impact tier list, and
Genshin Impact codes list, we've put together a brief tutorial on
what is Genshin Impact. Also available on our
Genshin Impact release date tracker is further information on the Switch release.
Genshin Impact may be played for free.
Stories of Monster Hunter
Capcom opted to force a lot of Pokémon sensibilities into the Monster Hunter environment after glancing jealously at The Pokémon Company. Instead of killing monsters—though there are plenty of them too—you seek out eggs and hatch them. After then, these baby monsters become party members and join you in some awesome turn-based combat. One of the greatest Android role-playing games is Monster Hunter Stories; players will like the fighting system of rock, paper, scissors more than the adorable creatures.
Use the Apple Arcade to play Monster Hunter Stories+.
Final Fantasy VIIAnd available on mobile devices is the finest Final Fantasy ever—at least in our humble view! Engage in fierce turn-based battle with well-known villains, immerse yourself in the grand narrative, and maybe even spend some spare time training Chocobo. If you're having trouble defeating a challenging boss, you may max out your stats and disable opponent encounters in the mobile edition with a single button press. We have made guides to assist you with
FFVII's Tifa and
FFVII's Cloud if you would want to learn more.
One more Eden
Another Eden is among the greatest RPGs on Android, and that's all you need to know about it. The author of Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VII, Masato Kato, created the complete idea. It's a really wonderful JRPG in and of itself, with amazing comic book graphics, a fantastic turn-based battle system, and a ton of characters to collect, if you haven't downloaded it before (shame on you!). Simply grasp it.If you want to play this game, be sure to check out our
Another Eden tier list.
The enhanced edition of Baldur's Gate
Beamdog brought the quintessential classic RPG back to life on mobile devices. This "Enhanced Edition" has brand-new material, improved graphics, and a totally redesigned user interface. Mobile users may also access a brand-new game that takes set in between the first and second installments of the series, Icewind Dale, and the sequel. You really do treat us, Beamdog.
The Banner SagaIn this depressing tactical role-playing game series, you drive your own caravan over a frozen, Viking-themed countryside. You will engage in Fire Emblem-style battle, explore a desolate landscape, and make choices in
Banner Saga that make Game of Thrones look like a children's program. For more Banner Saga-like series, see our list of the
best mobile strategy games.
Chrono TriggerChrono Trigger is considered the best JRPG in certain areas, therefore it would be almost sacrilegious to leave it off our list. It helps that, in contrast to most of Square Enix's other vintage JRPG conversions, this one is really quite good, even supporting fullscreen on the iPhone X.
The Darkest Dungeon
It would be immoral to leave Darkest Dungeon off of this list since, although not being a dungeon crawler in the conventional sense, it almost entirely involves crawling through dungeons. To recover your family's estate, you assemble a group of haphazard explorers and lead them through a number of "dungeons." Although monsters are still a serious menace, the psychological system is by far the biggest.Stress can take many forms for your characters; it might manifest as dread, paranoia, illogical conduct, and more. If you want to see things through to the very finish, you must resolve the problems that each of them has.
Dragon Quest VIIIThere are a ton of Dragon Quests accessible on mobile devices, just as in Final Fantasy. Since Square Enix upgraded Dragon Quest VIII for the most recent iPhones, that's what we ultimately decided to play. Oh, and it's also recognized by many as one of the best series entries. Take me on.
Kingdoms in Exile
If you play through it all, Exiled Kingdoms offers over 100 hours of material, making it a hidden treasure in the mobile app shops. Although it's not the most visually appealing game on our list, creator 4 Dimension Games obviously put a lot of love into it. It also checks all the boxes: with a large environment, an abundance of treasure, intricate character customization, and top-notch storytelling throughout, it's no surprise that this is one of the greatest RPGs for Android.
Grimvalor
Imagine, if you will, a platformer that attempts to emulate the Souls look while also implementing the Dark Souls gameplay. That is essentially Grimvalor: a platformer that is similar to Souls in which you battle your way through enemy-filled areas before facing monsters. Even if Pascal's Wager isn't available for Android just yet, Grimvalor is a perfectly good alternative that has a respectable control scheme and is as difficult to play.
Grimrock's Legend
The main feature of Legend of Grimrock was its amazing graphics, which took the traditional dungeon crawler sensibility into the twenty-first century. This game has all the elements you like from games like Might & Magic, Eye of the Beholder, and Ultima, including lots of tactical combat, extensive character customization, and hidden objectives. It's true that discovering secrets is a major draw.
Nights of Neverwinter
The improved version of the 3D sequel to Baldur's Gate, which shifted the action away from the group and toward a single hero and companion, is now playable on mobile devices. For those who want to play with others, it also has multiplayer functionality.
Stardew ValleyStardew Valley attempts to capture the same laid-back vibe and simplicity of play as Harvest Moon, the beloved farming game that is regarded by many as its spiritual successor. In the game, you've just inherited your grandfather's former ranch, which you must try to restore to health, integrate into the neighborhood, and maybe even pursue romantic interests.Additionally, friends may join you in the game to assist with household duties. Undoubtedly one of the greatest RPGs for Android, Stardew Valley is less of a farming game and more of a narrative about starting over and creating a home.Searching for further game-related content? Knights of the Old Republic in Star Wars
Even after 17 years after its first release, BioWare's Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is still the quintessential Star Wars game. It is BioWare at its finest. As a new Jedi, it is your job to protect the galaxy from the ruthless Sith. Alternatively, you might join the enemy and aid in their takeover. Even now, hardly many games offer you as much customization.Since the sequel is a fantastic role-playing game in and of itself and is anything from a simple retread, it only seems fitting that we put it on our list as well. Five years have passed after the events of the first game, and the Old Republic is barely surviving. Will you bring devastation or hope? You have the option.
Transistor
Super Giant's outstanding Bastion, which soared to fame during the indie boom when Xbox Live Arcade was the place to be, is followed up by Transistor. With a time-bending fighting system and a ton of strategy, Transistor continues to innovate within its own genre, swapping out the fantastical landscapes for neon-soaked sci-fi.
Warhammer QuestWarhammer Quest set out to demonstrate two things when it first appeared on the smartphone market back in 2013: first, that games could have strategic complexity and second, that they didn't have to be graphically plain or ugly. It accomplished each of these with remarkable skill, earning a ton of DLC and a sequel in the process.
Sky Arena: Summoners War
One of the first mobile esports games, this fantasy role-playing game pits players against one another from all around the globe to see who can be the strongest in combat. As a matter of fact, it inspired the development of a sequel that is limited to player-versus-player combat. But if you'd rather play alone, Summoners War lets you put together a group to take on various creatures and dungeon bosses. We recommend that you go over our collection of
Summoners War codes before starting this fantasy role-playing game.
Honkai Star RailAnother game by Hoyverse, the creator of Genshin Impact, is called Honkai Star Rail. This turn-based gacha game has amazing characters, a grand narrative, and a vast universe for you to discover.See our
