Triangle Strategy has almost reached a million copies sold to far.
Considering that it's a strategy game, Square Enix's most recent HD-2D RPG seems to be performing quite well. Since its debut two weeks ago, Triangle Strategy, the spiritual successor to Octopath Traveler, has already sold 800,000 copies. Instead of the turn-based fighting of the original game, players now engage in tactical battle akin to that of Fire Emblem.
According to a tweet from the game's Japanese language account, sales of Triangle Strategy are evidently robust, indicating that the title hasn't suffered much from Elden Ring's fierce rivalry. Even if Triangle Strategy was the only video game being released, it wasn't likely to sell twelve million copies anytime soon.
In contrast, Triangle Strategy sales seem to be on pace to reach the one million copies sold in the first month of Octopath Traveler. It makes me happy to see how well-received retro-style JRPGs are, and I hope this will inspire other developers to continue making them. Square is undoubtedly in the lead for the time being.
