The top Pokémon of Generation 8

Determining which gen 8 Pokémon is the best is not an easy undertaking, but given that Pokémon persist beyond the end of each generational age, we believe you must come to terms with these beings. It's useful to be aware of the strong Galarian animals that may be there, even if you have no immediate plans to return to the wild region.

See our listings of for further top selections of the generation.Pokémon gen 1, Pokémon gen 2, Pokémon gen 3, Pokémon gen 4, Pokémon gen 5, Pokémon gen 6, Pokémon gen 7, Pokémon , Gen 9. Yes, there are rankings available for every generation.

We've chosen to leave Inteleon off of this list, so it doesn't simply consist of all the Generation 8 legendaries and starters (not that Inteleon would have made it anyway). Now that we have addressed that warning, let's discuss the top gen eight Pokémon.

Appletun

Do you recall the grandmother Smith dragon I mentioned? It's Appletun, of course, the strange hybrid of an apple and a dragon that always wears a helmet. Although it is one of the few flightless dragon Pokémon in the lengthy history of the series, its species-unique type of both grass and dragon, along with its robust all-around numbers (well, except speed—but honestly, given the appearance of the beast, do you really think it can run?) more than make up for it.

To add this dragon to your squad, you must give Applin a delicious apple, since Appletun is ranked 842 in the Pokédex. As its looks may suggest, Appletun has a very pleasant scent that draws in a variety of animals, who it eventually converts into its meal. Its primary food source is tasty apples, although it will also eat little insect Pokémon that approach too closely.

Check out ourgrass Pokémon weakness article for some advice on how to defeat this grassy dragon. Consider taking a peek at our grass Pokémon to compare its performance with other members of the same kind.

Barrack Skewda Barreskewda is one of those iconic Pokémon that seem far less menacing than they really are. Barraskewda is a competitive beast that makes up for a lack of creative design with its great attack and speed numbers, unexpectedly wide movepool, and access to the quick swim ability that doubles speed in the rain.At level 26, Barraskewda evolves from Arrokuda to take over the 847th position in the Pokédex. With a mouth as sharp as a spear, the ferocious-looking beast can do the most damage when it rushes at its target while moving at over 100 knots. You need find out what the water Pokémon weakness is if you wish to draw Barraskewda in.Obstagoon

If you're anything like me, you may remark something like "perfect, no notes" after taking one glance at a Linoone before venturing into Galar. Subsequently, Obstagoon materialized—a mafioso-appearing badger-mon with a new dark Pokémon type and some really sharp claws with which to slash—making Linoone seem a touch dull. Even better, Obstagoon's shiny replacement is a wash of pink, blue, and white, making it one of the most interesting colour changes among the more than a thousand Pokémon on the roster.Obstagoon is a formidable opponent. Although we recommend using it as a member of your team, in the unlikely event that you encounter one, we must direct you to our dark Pokémon weakness guide. This is a given because Piers, the seventh gym leader in Sword and Shield, uses Obstagoon. Actually, as he is the leader of the dark type, he only employs animals of the dark kind.Corviknight

Skarmory was the sole steel bird Pokémon in the Pokémon universe for the longest period of time. Next up was Pokémon Sword and Shield, which had the flying-type Rookidee from route one. While Rookidee isn't very noteworthy on its own, its fully developed version, Corviknight, is a whole other story. Corviknight was a mainstay of the early eighth-generation competitive landscape for a reason—he had incredible stats, access to several potent moves, and a type that makes your opponent want to blast the bird out of the sky for countless rounds.Although handling flying-types might be difficult, you can ground them by following the instructions in our flying Pokémon weakness article.Grimmsnarl

A Pokémon that sounds and seems as if it has just escaped from collecting money from kids under a bridge? Enrol me, please. Though it may seem fierce, Grimmsnarl is really one of the finest support fairy Pokémon and is often used in online competitive bouts. Finally, we must discuss Grimmsnarl's exquisite glossy colour scheme, which replaces black and green with pink and white.Refer to our fairy Pokémon weakness guide to learn how to beat Grimmsnarl's fluffy, light side—yes, we are aware that you cannot see it with the naked eye.

Versatile

Whatever you think of Greedent, I can't think of a lot prettier early-game normal Pokémon evolution, maybe with the exception of Bibarel. Granted, Greedent is on the list purely by design, but even if it can't hold its own in combat, it can at least withstand some damage by using a stockpiling strategy. Try to argue that Greedent isn't an enhancement over the route one normal-type evolution line by just glancing at those adorable cheeks.See, even the adorable'mon need to be knocked down a peg or two. Check out our page onnormal Pokémon weakness to finish the process. The Polteageist is a Which kind of sugar do you choose for your ghost Pokémon? In any case, the introduction of Polteageist in Pokémon Sword and Shield was unexpected and featured one of the most creative Pokémon designs we've seen in a long time. Even better, Polteageist and its basic form Sinistea have the ability to appear in what is referred to as "phoney form," suggesting that a Pokémon porcelain business is operating somewhere in Galar. To me, it seems like a task for Detective Pikachu. However, Pikachu may not be the best'mon to employ in a battle, so be sure to check out our guide onghost Pokémon weakness to find the ideal Watson.

Eiscue

Since I spent 30 hours breeding a shiny Eiscue, I don't care if you dislike it; that's why it's on this list. Eiscue is undoubtedly one of the more contentious Pokémon in the Generation 8 lineup, but you can use its Mimikyu-type ability to withstand every hit, a respectable speed stat, and breeding access to swords dance to turn this penguin into an unlikely competitive sweeper that will be despised by your opponents. In case you encounter one during combat, go to our guide on ice Pokémon weakness to learn how to handle it and other ice Pokémon.Toxtricity

A punk rock Pokémon is an essential component of any British-influenced Pokémon game. It's imperative that we add Toxtricity to the squad since it's as near as we're going to come to partying with Sid Vicious. Toxtriciy is a formidable menace to any Pokémon authority, with an array of ability-boosted sound-based attacks, a sinister design that embraces the aesthetics of 1970s punk, and a poison/electric hybrid type that may be difficult to handle.Because of its unusual type combination, fighting Toxtricity might seem overwhelming, but we've got you covered with our instructions on electric Pokémon weakness and poison Pokémon weakness.

Dragapult

No legendaries on this list, but it couldn't hurt to have a pseudo-legendary, can it? False. With its very large move pool and dragon/ghost type, the aircraft carrier-inspired weapon known as the Dragapult can and will damage almost anything that gets in its path. When it fires, it fires rather hard. In if all of that isn't enough, Ash has a trainer on his squad in the anime, proving that Dragapult only hires the greatest.Don't freak out if you come across a dragapult during combat. To find out how to beat it, just refer to our dragon Pokémon weakness guide. These are our selections for the top Pokémon from Generation 8. See our selections for the top games similar to Pokémon for more amazing creatures. If you need assistance filling out your Pokédex, we also have Ralts evolution, Bisharp evolution, Gloom evolution, Minccino evolution, Floette evolution, Misdreavus evolution, Rockruff evolution, and more.
