100 million Samsung Galaxy AI smartphones are expected to be released.
The Samsung Galaxy AI, which is part of the company's new S24 phone lineup, was extremely impressive to see. Even if a lot of it seemed to be fairly comparable to Google Pixel features, it's still fascinating. Perhaps more so than in the last ten years, smartphones are becoming smarter, and Samsung hopes to expand that functionality into many more devices.
According to ET Telecom, T.M. Roh, head of Samsung Electronics' mobile division, wants to roll out Samsung Galaxy AI capabilities to 100 million handsets by year's end. This implies that older Samsung phones may get features like Circle to Search, Live Translate, and AI picture editing.
But there's another point raised in the interview that could be a little more concerning. Samsung only states that until 2025, these AI functions will be free. Although Samsung doesn't seem to have decided what will happen beyond that date, it would seem that imposing the cutoff strongly suggests that at some point in the future, some, if not all, Galaxy AI functions would need payment, most likely via a subscription model.
"Our analysis shows that there are different needs for mobile Al," Roh said. "As a result, some customers will be happy to use the AI capabilities at no cost to them." Additionally, certain consumers could want and even pay for even more potent Al capabilities. Therefore, we will take into account each of these elements while making decisions in the future.
Though it would be ideal if only more robust, extra features made it into the subscription tier, you never know what the future may bring.
