Alternatively, use our Pokémon Go type chart to double-check your understanding of what is very powerful versus what in Niantic's updated combat system if you're still having trouble.

Let us now begin our ranking of the top steel Pokémon.

,Art of steel Pokémon Dialga, and

Dialga<
  • Fast move: Dragon breath
  • Charged move: Iron head
Despite being the first of several steel Pokémon cover stars, Dialga manages to mount a strong challenge for the top place in our ranking. With its legendary controller of time, you can sweep opponents with ease since it has dragon coverage from its dragon moves and the ability to use iron head to battle those annoying fairies.Check out our guide ondragon Pokémon weakness to have a deeper understanding of Dialga's dragon side.Art of steel Pokémon Melmetal

Alloy

  • Fast move: Thunder shock
  • Charged move: Rock slide
Melmetal is a creature composed of squishy liquid metal that is the physical equivalent of mercury in flux—and I don't mean it in a tarot reading kind of way. Even yet, Melmetal, the enormous goopy mess, is still one of the most powerful primary attackers on this list and has a high chance of eliminating scary fire-types that have access to rock slides.Art of steel Pokémon Registeel

]
  • Fast move: Lock on
  • Charged move: Flash cannon
Registeel

Registeel, one of the few pure steel types on our list, may not be as useful as other choices, but it's still a good decision to do serious damage to your opponent if you're facing up against ice, rock, or fairy Pokémon. With access to Flash Cannon, Registeel can also dispatch flying and water-type Pokémon with ease, so there's no excuse not to have this renowned'mon on your squad.Art of steel Pokémon Metagross

  • Fast move: Bullet punch
  • Charged move: Meteor mash
Metagross

Because of the quasi-legendary Metagross, the third generation of Pokémon brought us not one, but two iconic steel Pokémon. This metal head is not to be overlooked because of its incredible numbers, steel/psychic dual-typing that provides strong coverage, and—thanks to Pokémon Go's mega evolution—a mega form that stands out as the finest steel-type attacker in the game.Check out our guide onpsychic Pokémon weakness to get insight into Metagross's thoughtsArt of steel Pokémon Cobalion,

Cobalion

,
  • Fast move: Metal claw
  • Charged move: Sacred sword
, andWith the exception of those with dual psychic typing, Cobalion's dual fighting type makes it the ideal counterbalance to the majority of the other steel types on this list. With its large health numbers, limited super-effective vulnerabilities, and unique access to the holy sword among other steel kinds, this sword of justice is a good choice for the great league, if not the upper tiers of the competition.Check out our guide onfighting Pokémon weakness to get a deeper understanding of Cobalion's fighting spirit.Art of steel Pokémon Empoleon

Empoleon

  • Fast move: Metal claw
  • Charged move: Hydro cannon/flash cannon
How do you counter this, given that steel is completely incompatible with fire? Simple, featuring a steel and water dual-type Pokémon like Empoleon, the mature Piplup, one of my favourite starters. Given that Blastoise wears a cannon on his back, you would assume he would be the master of the guns, but Empoleon is the one having access to both the flash and hydro cannons, which I believe you can agree is a formidable arsenal.Swim over to our water Pokémon weakness guide to learn how to master the waves Empoleon can create.Art of steel Pokémon Heatran

Heatran

  • Fast move: Fire spin
  • Charged move: Iron head
Anybody familiar with thermodynamics knows that the combination of heat and steel may be lethal. This has never been truer than with Heatran, whose half fire-typing makes it one of the rare steel-type steel counters. I also can't resist mentioning it since it's the only legendary shiny from Pokémon Go that I personally possess, despite the fact that its pink eyes raise the possibility that a cunning Magmar has been farting on my poor Heatran's pillow.Check out our advice onfire Pokémon weakness if you wish to endure the heatArt of steel Pokémon Zamazenta and Zacian

Crowned Shield and Crowned Sword: Zacian and Zamazenta

  • Fast move: Metal claw
  • Charged move: Iron head
Since each of these legendaries have access to comparable steel-type movepools in their crowned shield and crowned sword forms, we're grouping these two together. Zamazenta's remarkable all-around size and Zacian's explosive attack stats will surely annoy opponents and crush any ice, rock, or fairy Pokémon.Art of steel Pokémon Magnezone

Magnezone

  • Fast move: Charge beam
  • Charged move: Mirror shot
Magnezone defies the tendency of the fourth generation of Pokémon, which doesn't have many steel types that stand out. It's a great design that builds upon the idea of the Magnemite and gives something more potent than Magenton in combat. Its special attack stat really hammers down on water and flying kinds, even if it's not nearly as strong as some other steel and electric types.Check out our guide onelectric Pokémon weakness for some hope against Magnezone.Art of steel Pokémon Jirachi

Jirachi

  • Fast move: Confusion
  • Charged move: Doom desire
Jirachi fills a bit of a niche as the sole steel-type mythical Pokémon, but it's still a valuable addition to your team. There are many of reasons to choose this little steel-type, including its special access to its potent main series move, dread desire, psychic and fairy move coverage with bewilderment and dazzling shine, and the fact that it has no single stat below 200 (which is amazing, in case you were unaware).Custom image of Aegislash on a Zacian background for best steel Pokemon in Pokemon Go guide

Aegislash
  • Fast move: Fury cutter
  • Charged move: Shadow ball
Despite not even existing when Niantic first released Pokémon Go all those years ago, Aegislash is currently a very strong steel-type choice because of its secondary ghost typing and vast array of possible attacks. Interestingly enough, our favourite Aegislash build depends on strong defence numbers and little vulnerabilities rather than a steel-type attack to keep the sword and shield Pokémon alive throughout a raid boss or gym fight. These are our selections for Pokémon Go's top steel-themed characters. See our steel Pokémon weakness guide for tips on how to get the most out of these creatures.
