The blue blur's new techniques are shown in the battle video for Sonic Frontiers.
Less than a month separates us from everyone's favorite rapid blue hedgehog's return to the Nintendo Switch, and Sega is teasing us in the lead-up with this Sonic Frontiers battle trailer. with a ton of fighting. Combat, you heard correctly. The blue blur has never exactly been good at fighting, but this time around, something seems a bit different.
In the recently released film, Sonic is shown fighting fiercely while using his new phantom rush ability, which builds up throughout a battle to deal a flurry of powerful blows to an opponent. Even better, it seems that Sonic may practice his new combinations in a combat training area before using them in actual battle.
While Phantom Rush is a formidable attack, Sonic has other new moves under his sleeve—yes, I realize he doesn't have any sleeves—such as Sonic Boom and Wild Rush, which both take use of the blue blur's inherent speed to do huge damage to adversaries. From what we've seen in the brief fighting teaser, Sonic's strikes seem to be more powerful than his previous ones, even when it comes to boxing at the Olympic Games.
Sonic Frontiers also has a hint of action RPG, as the protagonist gains access to a skill tree for the first time. Given that the idea of a talent tree is not novel, it may not seem like a major advancement. Nevertheless, it's a whole new addition to the Sonic franchise, and it seems like it may provide some diversity in terms of fighting tactics.
