Yu Narukami
Yu is Persona 4 Golden's protagonist and, quite possibly, the finest character in the game. For this reason, you are never allowed to remove Yu from your group. Yu, the protagonist of the main plot, is a high school student from the town of Inaba. Aside from during combat, Yu is silent the whole time. Yu is called to a location known as the Velvet Room when he starts looking into a string of killings in Inaba. There, he is given a year to solve the murder mystery or else both Yu and the rest of the world would be in grave danger.
Izanagi is the Persona that Yu controls, but eventually Yu finds himself to be the only one who can use many Personas. Because of this, he is the team's most adaptable hero and an excellent all-around player. Yu's Persona eventually transforms into Izanagi-no-Okami, a much more powerful monster that aids players in taking on the game's most menacing foes.
Yosuke Hanamura
Yosuke, a youngster who relocates to Inaba just before the game's events, is close to one of the first few murder victims. As a result, he joins forces with Yu and Teddie to look into the identity of the attacker of these young students. Yosuke and the others finally go together to explore a place called the TV World, which helps them find and use their Personas.
Yosuke dislikes living in Inaba since he relocated from a large town, and he often wears accessories and fashionable clothes to bring back memories of his old life. Jiraiya is his persona; she is a tall, white-clothed creature with Mickey Mouse-style ears. Yosuke is a skilled fighter who can wield two different kinds of swords simultaneously. Despite his frequent role as comedic relief, he is a vital member of the squad and a tough opponent.
Yukiko Amagi
Due to expectations from her affluent family—who are company owners—Yukiko, a pretty and popular high school student, has a lot on her plate. Her family wants Yukiko to take over the family firm someday. Despite this, or maybe even because of it, she enjoys having fun, playing practical jokes, and laughing uncontrollably. Like many others, Yukiko visits TV World, where her shadow reflects her concerns about her family making life decisions for her.
Konohana Sakuya, Yukiko's persona, is a tall humanoid with yellow eyes who resembles a bird-like figure entirely covered in sakura leaf feathers. Yukiko, like many others, enlists in the crew in an attempt to solve the killings that are occurring in the town. She also hopes to one day avoid the doom her family has planned for her and leave the town of Inaba.
Chie Satonaka
Chie Satonaka, Yukiko's closest friend, is a martial arts enthusiast and a little more rowdy than her buddy. She is quite positive, although she does feel a little envious of Yukiko since Chie aspires to be as effortlessly feminine as her friend. Chie is dressed in a colorful, green and yellow martial arts costume that is evocative of Bruce Lee and other like figures. Because of all her training, she is also very powerful and uses her trademark Kung Fu skills in combat.
Tomoe Gozen is Chie's persona; she is a tall, striking creature with a feminine physique and a yellow martial arts attire that makes her quite similar to Chie. When attacking an opponent, Tomoe wields her naginata in addition to a barrage of kicks.
Naoto Shirogane
Naoto is a young investigator who relocates to Inaba to help with the murder investigation. In an effort to win over her male coworkers, Naoto often displays herself in a very macho manner. But when Naoko realizes that Inaba is in danger, she uses herself as bait and is drawn into the TV World, where she must confront her own shadow. Here, her shadow stands in for her annoyance at the unjust treatment she gets from her male coworkers and her ongoing concern that they would treat her disrespectfully or dismiss her at the first chance simply because she is a woman.
Naoto's persona, known as Sukuna-Hikona, is a towering, blue humanoid dressed in a manner reminiscent of Naoto's police garb. Sakuna also possesses flashing yellow eyes and appendages on its head that resemble butterflies. In combat, it even brandishes a laser sword—possibly a reference to police batons that are electrified.
The author is Kanji Tatsumi.
Many consider Kanji, a noisy and sometimes rebellious adolescent, to be a troublemaker. Even rumors about his being a part of an Inaba motorcycle gang are being circulated. Despite his bluster, Kanji has a sensitive side as well; he often gets angry when he can't be vulnerable. In addition, he has no interest in females at all. It seems as if he is angry with them instead.
Upon succumbing to the peculiar occurrences in the town and being transferred to the TV World, Kanji is forced to confront his fears and acknowledge the significance of his tender side. His persona, Take-Mikazuchi, is a massive robotic being with a skeleton-like appearance. It cuts a very menacing figure that resembles the version of himself that Kanji made up to frighten others. It holds a lightning bolt-shaped weapon, like a lance.
Kujikawa, rise
After returning to Inaba for a short break from idoling, Rise, an outspoken and happy idol on the rise to stardom, joins the Investigation Team when the gang shows up to warn her that she could be the next murder victim. Her success has made her conceited and has led her to openly flirt with the main character.
In the TV World, Rise must battle her enormous, pole-dancing monster of a Shadow. Later, as Rise acknowledges the Shadow as her real self, the Shadow self takes on the Persona of Himiko.
Teddie
Upon entering the enigmatic TV World, players encounter Teddie, an odd cross between a clown and a bear. Teddie consents to work with Yu, Yosuke, and the rest of The Investigation Team in order to stop the evil from taking over the town since she too wants to find the source of the killings. Teddie has knowledge of both the TV World and its gloomy underbelly. Additionally, Teddie often creates puns centered on their own name, which was a famously difficult task for the Atlus translation team when they had to come up with equivalent gags in English.
