Review of the Asus ROG 5s Pro: Please let me keep it.
Our Verdict
The Asus ROG 5s is a superb phone that makes every game you touch look stunning, run like a dream, and so damn enjoyable. The basic phone elements are so smooth, that despite a high price tag, it would suit most people in need of a new device.
Selecting a new phone is never easy—at least not for me. Every year, a plethora of new and dazzling phones are released, most of which having minor updates, yet we are all obsessed with them anyway. I've used a variety of phones throughout the years, including Samsung models and iPhones (I now use a Galaxy Note 20). I haven't tried the Asus ROG line, however. That is, until today.
I've been experimenting with the just released Asus ROG 5s Pro, and wow, what an amazing experience. Because of the little changes I notice every year, I don't generally fall for the hoopla around new technology, but this caught me off guard. For those who are not aware with this phone brand, it is made especially for gamers. Everything about it is intended to provide the best possible experience for fans of mobile gaming.
That's another matter entirely whether any gadget lives up to expectations. However, it's not in this instance. The Asus ROG 5s Pro's performance has really amazed me, from the amazing graphics to the responsive touch controls. I think this is the finest mobile gaming experience I've had so far, and everything about it seems seamless. I'd even dare to say that using this keyboard as opposed to the one on my Galaxy Note 20 is more enjoyable.
Alright, so I approached this phone from every aspect in order to properly evaluate its capabilities. Really, I used the cloud's capabilities to play some Xbox games, try out Marvel Future Revolution, and had a blast with League of Legends: Wild Rift. I brought games with me that would really put the technology to the test—not just simple match-three puzzlers that even the most basic smartphones could do without any issues.
I've played a lot of games on this phone, and I can attest that not only does it function really well—I can now play games swiftly and efficiently—but it also looks amazing on this gorgeous screen. It almost seemed as like I was seeing my beloved Magik through fresh eyes, albeit the visuals on my Samsung aren't awful at all.
I'll talk about how amazed I was with Marvel Future Revolution's performance on the Asus ROG 5s Pro since I can't stop talking about it. I decided to restart the game, and I can honestly say that it was incredible to see all of the explosions and battles via a different perspective. I saw a noticeable shift in appearance, which surprised me. When I joined my favorite mutant in Limbo, I may have even screamed out loud since the Ruler of Limbo has never looked better.
The ROG 5s Pro's screen size is excellent for games of this kind, even if the makers should be credited for their control scheme, which felt as smooth as butter. It's a delight to use the touch controls. Everything seems natural as they are so responsive and the phone is nice to handle. There's no straining to reach buttons, no doubting if they will function at all. I could talk for days about MFR's performance on this gadget, to be honest, but I'd best get over my obsession before I become too attached.
I have a little addiction to League of Legends: Wild Rift, and I must admit that I have never had such a flawless gaming experience on a regular tablet. It's not that it runs poorly on other phones—far from it—but minor details stand out, and seeing Jinx in all her beauty is delightful.
Moreover, what do you get when you mix a top-notch smartphone with some amazing internet? Of course, you get an amazing Xbox Cloud Gaming experience. Every one I tested looked fantastic, and it was easy and fast to connect my Bluetooth controller to the gadget.
It's worth noting that this device has excellent sound quality. When it comes to gaming, sound and music are crucial. While it is the responsibility of developers to make sure that this section corresponds with the game's content, having a device that can play loud music can help you fully immerse yourself in the experience.
I've spoken lyrical about the Asus ROG 5s Pro's gaming performance, but is the design as good? Well, a phone's functionality and usability are the most crucial factors, but let's face it—many buyers would overlook a phone if it isn't very visually appealing. Thankfully, this smartphone has a stylish design that is visually appealing, particularly when you take into account the light-up logo on the back of the gadget.
In addition, the device's design is excellent; yet, I'm still surprised that there is a phone larger than my Samsung Note Galaxy 20. Even though it is a bigger device, it has a same weight and degree of comfort that lets you play games with touch controls for extended periods of time without becoming tired.
Not to mention the air triggers, which only enhance your game experience. I can attest that I really like using them, even if my current phone is devoid of them.
Overall, even though the Asus ROG 5s Pro is expensive, I wholeheartedly endorse it, particularly if you're an avid mobile gamer. A smartphone is a great option for anybody in need of a new mobile phone because of its sleek design and flawless operation of all its vital components.
