FFVII characters: who should you know?

Final Fantasy VII is a widely played Japanese role-playing game. The game was first released on the PlayStation in 1997, and since then, it has been re-released on a number of platforms, including the Nintendo Switch, where it will be available in 2019. What, then, is it about FFVII that is so unique? A few things are present, including the tale, the world, and the fighting. The characters are another factor that acts as a reminder of why it's so fantastic.

Our goal with this FFVII characters guide is to familiarize you with every face you will come across while exploring Midgar and beyond. The primary cast, which includes Cloud Strife, Tifa Lockhart, Aerith Gainsborough, and resident bad guy Sephiroth, are all well-known to everyone. However, there are a ton of interesting people in the world who are just waiting to meet you; you may be amazed at how helpful they can be.

You may want to give another Final Fantasy game a try after finishing this one. If so, we recommend playing Final Fantasy X. We assure you that after the required blitzball battle is over, things will get much better. To assist you in getting started, we offer FFX Lulu and FFX Auron instructions. Alternatively, you may discover what else is available by looking through our selection of the best Switch RPGs.

Members of the FFVII Party

Alright, so it only seems sense to begin with the characters you get to know very well. You see, these men are the ones who support you in all the ass-kicking that you need.

Cloud Strife

Since Cloud Strife is the primary character of Final Fantasy VII, you should probably get acquainted to him. Honestly, it shouldn't be that hard. He's extremely endearing in his own clumsy manner. This young guy is quite the warrior; he claims to have been a first-class SOLDIER in the past. He has a long history with Tifa Lockhart, another party member.

See our FFVII Cloud guide to find out all you need to know about taking on the role of our man of the hour.

Barrett Wallace

As a large man with a pistol for a hand, Barrett has all the badass qualities one might want. As the leader of the neighborhood Avalanche cell, he is attempting to destroy Shinra because of their usage of mako. In addition to that, they really don't care about anything except money. Despite his seemingly unstoppable energy, Barret is the type of man you want in your corner. However, he's not always a grump; in fact, he's rather lovely to his kid.

Tipha Lockhart

One of the primary protagonists in Final Fantasy VII, Tifa Lockart is also one of the first party members you may recruit. She is a strong fighter who likes to express herself via her fists. She and Cloud were friends in their early years, so there's some history there as well, which you may want to look into.

Check out our FFVII Tifa guide to learn about Lockhart's weaponry, limit breakers, and materia in order to get her ready for combat.

Aerith Gainsborough

Aerith, the love interest of Final Fantasy VII, is among the most significant characters for a number of reasons. Don't let it deceive you, however; she is also a really nice person. With her amazing magical talents, Aerith can easily take care of herself.

Check out our FFVII Aerith guide to make the most of her in battle. It lists all of her weaponry and makes recommendations on what supplies to give her.

Red XIII

Regretfully, Red XIII, whose true name is Nanaki, is a specimen that Professor Hojo uses for his experiments. He resembles a wolf and possesses fire-red fur, despite the fact that his age suggests otherwise. In actuality, he is really young. Red is really an adolescent, no older than sixteen, by the norms of his species.

Cait Sith

A little later in the narrative, when Cloud and company had fled Midgar and ventured out to find Sephiroth, this small kid and his Moogle appear. In addition, he is a cunning figure who keeps things interesting for the gang.

High Wind, Cid

Cid made the decision to join Cloud and his squad somewhat easily, given his strong suspicion of the Shinra organization. He smokes more cigarettes than we've eaten hot meals, swears more than a trooper, and acts a little arrogant at times, but at his core, he's a kind man who wants to see the world become a better place.

Kisaragi Yuffie

Yuffie is a cunning person. If she weren't, however, she would be a horrible ninja. She is a materia hunter who wants to bring her native nation back to its former splendor. It would be unwise to undervalue Yuffie as a strong ally who aims to repair the harm that Shinra caused.

Yuffie may be chosen as a character. She doesn't need to be recruited. You don't have to play as her, or Vincent for that matter, to finish the game. However, we advise you to reconsider it.

Valentine Vincent

Vincent is not really clear-cut. He was formerly a Turk, and he has a lot of secrets that make him connected to some fascinating people. Vincent's research with Professor Hojo gave him the ability to shapeshift as well.

Similar to Yuffie, Vincent is a choice character, but if we're being really honest, there aren't any good reasons not to recruit him.

FFVII's primary adversary

Sephiroth

There is no need to introduce this man. You've probably heard of Sephiroth, even if you haven't played Final Fantasy VII. He's perhaps one of the most well-known antagonists in gaming history. He was hailed as the most successful graduate of the program and a former SOLDIER until he became deeply hateful of everyone and everything.

Members of the FFVII Avalanche
