Monsters are cool, much like in the monster games they feature in. Godzilla, King Kong, Mothra, Tom Nook, and those dinosaurs from that ridiculous movie There are many creatures in the world. Monster games, or video games featuring monsters, are an excellent spot to view them all. Let me tell you, there are a bunch. Monster Hunter Stories - Switch and mobile

When most people think of monster games, they immediately think of Monster Hunter. It's because the title contains the word "monster." However, some of the series' original games may be a little difficult to get into, so for a simpler onboarding experience, try the Monster Hunter Stories series. As the name implies, it's a bit less scary, with a stronger emphasis on the characters and more intricate RPG elements pertaining to raising monsters as opposed to killing them.

The first game in the series is available on mobile (you can also buy it on Apple Arcade), but Monster Hunter Stories 2 is available on Switch and is rather fantastic, as you can see in our Monster Hunter Stories 2 review. Check out ourMonster Hunter Stories review if you need further persuasion.Use the Apple Arcade to play Monster Hunter Stories+.

Best monster games: 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim. Image shows a sentinel against a black background. It's a large metal mech.

13 Sentinels: Switch

- Aegis Rim

Aegis Rim, Sentinel No. 13 recounts a complex science fiction tale from the eyes of thirteen kids who are all charged with destroying kaiju that are trespassing into their home. With a real-time strategic element set during the kaiju conflict, the game stands in between a visual novel and a point-and-click adventure. Check out my13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim Switch review if that doesn't persuade you that it's one of the finest games I've ever played. It's a really interesting and different game.

Best monster games: Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Image shows a intimidating skeletal figure.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Switch

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt's creatures are nonetheless horrifying and disgusting even if they're often lower in size than some of the other games on our list, so that should be sufficient, right? Aside from that, however, it's also among the greatest games available, with a vast and stunning environment, a multitude of well crafted side missions to squander your time on, and an exciting main plot that will keep you hooked through to the very end. If you've already reached the conclusion, you may discover other games in the same spirit by reading our guide to the greatest games similar to The Witcher 3.

Best monster games: Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Image shows Piplup, a small bird, standing in some grass near the ocean.

Switch version of Pokémon Legends Arceus

I am aware of your next move immediately. You'll argue, "But Pikachu isn't a monster!" You know what, kids? The word "monster" is what the "mon" in Pokémon is short for. These are monsters in a pocket. And nowhere is this more true than in Pokémon Legends Arceus, where they are free to walk about and attack you whenever they like. Don't worry, however; you can capture them with your Pokéballs and utilise them to help you in fierce fights! Perhaps all along we were the monsters? Learn more in our Best monster games: Monster Hunter Rise. Image shows a Garangolm, a giant gorilla-like monster, smashing through the ground, throwing various characters into the air.

Monster Hunter Rise – Switch

review of Pokémon Legends Arceus.Rise of Monster Hunter is, in my view, the ideal technique to satisfy your monster fill. Once you've defeated a variety of monsters, you may utilise their skin to create new clothes. Though really strange, it's a lot of fun. In addition to our excellent review of Monster Hunter Rise, Sunbreak, a huge new expansion, is about to release. Best monster games: Nexomon Extinction. Image shows two tamers facing off in on a 2D overworked map full of grass and plants. One of them is saying "Yes... Another tamer has crossed my path!"

Switch and mobile Nexomon Extinction

For those who would want to subjugate monsters rather than eliminate them, consider Nexomon Extinction. It transfers the beloved Pokémon monster-catching concept to your mobile device without requiring any complicated emulation. If you're tired of Pikachu and his friends, it's definitely worth a look since it also captures the same kind of charm. See who to choose first by reading our Nexomon starter guide.

Best monster games: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Image shows Link blocking a firey attack from a Lizalfos.

Breath of the Wild: The Legend of Zelda - Switch

Alright, I usually claim that my fave game is The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. However, there is one issue I do have with it: the adversary diversity. There are almost five adversaries! It's really kind of dumb. However, the ones you do come up against are unquestionably monsters. It's also necessary to kill a lot of them. They're all odd animals, whether they're stupid tiny bokoblins or nasty lynels. The fun really starts when you encounter Ganon's many elemental forms. Take a look at our BotW recipe guide to be creative and ready for the fierce battles.

Best monster games: The Witcher: Monster Slayer. Image shows an armoured figure on a wooded background, inside a phone frame. To the left you can see the game's logo.

Mobile version of The Witcher: Monster Slayer

The Witcher: Monster Slayer brings The Witcher's universe to life on your phone, complete with augmented reality features reminiscent of Pokémon Go. Surprisingly, it accomplishes so very effectively (as our The Witcher: Monster Slayer review illustrates). It's a continually shifting experience since there are a tonne of creatures to defeat and everything you come across depends on the time of day and location.

Monster Rancher – Switch

Best monster games: Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX. Image shows the game's logo with various wacky monsters behind it.

Recently, Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX made its way onto the Switch, reminding everyone that Monster Rancher isn't really that similar to Pokèmon. The game's depth, with its emphasis on raising young mons, surprised us in our Monster Rancher 1 & 2 Switch review. If only you could communicate with these beings, maybe you might attempt to establish alliances and become friends with them. That seems like something fascinating.

"Doom - Switch and mobile" Best monster games: Doom. Image shows a red, pixely demon in the first Doom game.

More hideous than a demon, what is it? And what could be more effective than taking a shotgun to a demon's face? My preacher taught me that, and Doom also taught me that. It's also not necessary to play anything except the original. Kill some demons; you are carrying out the will of the Lord.Friendo, those are the only monster games available to you today. Check out our list of the topgames similar to The Sims for a more lighthearted experience. Start raising kids, of course.
